"We have failed to provide a vision of society to which they feel they want to belong. We have even tolerated these segregated communities behaving in ways that run counter to our values."
Building a stronger sense of national and local identity holds "the key to achieving true cohesion" by allowing people to say "I am a Muslim, I am a Hindu, I am a Christian, but I am a Londoner... too", Cameron said.
He argued the UK needed a stronger national identity to prevent people turning to all kinds of extremism.
As Mr Cameron outlined his vision, he suggested there would be greater scrutiny of some Muslim groups which get public money but do little to tackle extremism.
What is the nature of the "problem" and how big is it?
The UK used to be a pleasant mixture of Welshmen, Scotsmen, Brits and Irelanders who got along swimmingly. What happened? Maybe if you got smart and passed a law that ALL men had to wear skirts, the unwanted folks would pack up and swim to France?

Given the way humanity has grown over the last 5000 years, and given its predatory tendencies, I can see that the mixing of races and cultures was inevitable. It took place with the background of Colonialism and Western hegemony, so I wonder how much it has contributed to the multicultural project´s failure.
A "hot potatoe" indeed....A few days ago,-Singaporian representatives said that it is "impossible" to integrate muslims... Mr.Cameron already touched this subject at Davos...
As for Sweden,it´s a complete disaster,and there´s 100 reasons for it...

Pfft.....youre preaching to the converted..of course its bloody failed! One has to want it in order to embrace it..far easier to move to a country then trash everything in the pursuit of your own beliefs!
Multiculturalism is the only way forward . The nationalism is failed. London or Europe is no longer white .This that worry for Ms Cameron, he is finely disguising it in his statements. The world has become a melting pot for all cultures .No place belongs to any particular race or religion .people will eventually break all barriers are a new world order will be soon coming where the multiculturalism takes the roots .The protests in Arab world now is a pointer towards that .Let people mingle , let the races mix, let the nationalities sublime and the humanity arrive.
Multiculturalism or immigration needs to slow down. That is for sure. Imagine the Westerners packing into Arab countries and demanding their way of life to be respected where the laws in those countries are not as liberal. Who would that work?
I'm not saying immigration and multiculturalism has failed and needs to be stopped, but it surely needs to slow down due to the given dynamics---especially in Europe. It's not exactly California where multiculturalism and immigration is embraced and has been a way of life for many generations.
We will all be coffee colored people in the end, if we survive that long.
Peoples have always migrated away from war, hunger or disaster... no one chooses to die if there is an alternative.. no matter how uncomfortable it is to anyone.
Life as we've known it will always be changing, there is no other choice than to deal with it.

You don't suppose by any chance that during 300 years of imperialist occupation and oppression in their countures the British were "unwanted folk." Holy Jesus you people are amazing. Why on earth do you think you have so many people from around the world in your precious country?
I wonder if we will ever see the day where we will see each other as that what we are..no matter where born or raised, what hue the skin tone or what believe we have or not have..will we ever achieve the amount of tolerance needed to truly get along...maybe one day human nature will be evolved enough..I just hope it will happen before it will be to late...
JeanMarlow: It isn't something that can be left behind and regarded as just 'history.' Those historical events are what have led to the present: cause and effect. To dismiss the historical face of 300 years of imperialims, occupation and oppression around the world is heavily self serving.
We will have to disagree on that one,but thats what opinions are all about. For me the future is important,as the past cannot be changed. I have no problem with migration. What i have a problem with is people migrating soley for a free ride.Whatever country you live in,the people from that country should be the goverments first priority.
gininitaly: I have noticed this in Britain... that they have gone a bit overboard with concessions to the foreigners over the rights and considerations of it's natural born citizens.
Actually all the rules should be the same in the whole Eu. I do have issues with the new immigrant choosing not to blend with their new country. Seems only appropriate.
You have and I have.
A large family can arrive at the airport in the UK,from anywhere outside europe, and be provided for. They will be given a house, furnished. They will be given food vouchers, legal aid, interpreters, mobile phone and money. In some cases a car, paid for by the goverment, including running costs. They are not forced to work. After some time, thier other family members will join them, and a bigger house ect is provided. all dental and medical services are free. Many people in the UK would love some help.Pensioners would love a bit more money so they can put the heating on. What i am saying isnt rubbish,i have many cases of first hand experience, and i am sorry, but it goes against the grian.

What do you think the rationale for this is? I think it is payback for 300 years of imperialism and oppression around the world. Cause and effect.

So,if everyone from around the world who America has had conflict with over the years turned up in your town, you would not have a problem with them being housed and provided for, free? So we continue to blame all the Germans for what happened in the war,and all those they fought should turn up in Germany for freebies? Sorry,we will have to agree to differ.Anyway, its time for a bike ride!
I have read the q'uran. It commands it's followers to kill infidels. Islam is incompatible with freedom. Wherever they go, they will destroy until all is Islam. Here in the states they are trying to get sharia law recognized, and are failing dismally (thank God) I wish for peace, but i will defend my country with my life if i have to. And ladies, Islam has 0% tolerance for "uppity women" and will quickly put them in their place. If you want to become a second class citizen, move to Saudi Arabia, where it is illegal to own a bible.
I guess you didn't read the quran or you wroted your own verson of it.
