Even today love has the same meaning for me as it did 20 years ago.What does love mean to you?
But the feeling is different from 30 years ago.

The character of a person breads kindness and a kick in the arse. 
That's sounds rough
The feeling and meaning of love should not be different at different ages.
It's just that, when young, people don't distinguish between desire and emotions.
And mostly people don't distinguish "falling in love" from "love". Therefore often, after initial "falling in love" period they suddenly feel empty.
It's basically all in our head. Our image created in our head about the person we encountered, an illusion we create to ourselves. And we start falling in love with this illusion which seldom matches the real person in question. When reality strikes is when love vanishes making us feel disappointed about that person. But we shouldn't be, that person is the same, it's just we realised the illusion we had was wrong, we should be disappointed about ourselves and our judgement..
If the image we created about the person we met matches (more or less) the real person as it is, then after "falling in love" real love happens, genuine emotions for a person next to us. Emotions for what they mean to us, for what we see in that person, for how they make us feel,
Unfortunately people tend to present to their best, taking it as marketing ("try before buy"), ticking boxes which is utmost nonsense - those boxes are what one thinks is important in that particular moment.
Ticking boxes actually narrows one's choices. Besides it does not account for (unknown) future changes.
Even worse, one making boxes to be ticked probably doesn't tick all their boxes (if it does, means person is so perfect and doesn't need anybody)..
In order to avoid disappointment one should present the worst part of personality and check, if other person can deal with that negative traits. As with virtues everybody is comfortable to live with.
And, most important of all - respect, sincerity and open communication are the key for rewarding emotions called love.

What love got to do with it
love is exists, without it being between to people , it is how you live your life everyday, how you think , how you act , just how you treat yourself and others everyday.

Love is strong emotional connection with another human being which can involve caring and sharing and respect
But it can be a double edge sword for people who misuse the word Love for Lust for there physical attributes (SEX)

It is said in the scriptures that love is within you, do not look for it outside. Not only love but all the feelings are within you, external mediums just become the reason to stimulate them.
