well I have to admit.. now my kids are adults.. I dont want a relationship with a guy with younger kids .. only cos I have been there and done that and dont want to have to go through it all again with someone elses kids
however.. if both people have kids who take up their time then maybe its good cos they understand each other and where their priorities lie so it shouldnt cause too many dramas (in theory

And that includes their children. Because their children are a big part of them. If someone told me they wouldn't date me because of my kids i'd just say oh well its your loss and move on. In terms of dating its better to be alone then be with someone who won't accept your kids.

I don’t advise another woman to think she can tell my kid what to do, nor would I take it upon myself to tell another woman how to raise her kids? But I do expect the kids to show manners when talking to others that enter our home?

i had sole custody of my son whilst he grew up. didnt stop me from dating. i told all that i went out with about my situation and over the years till my son turned 16, i had some "just a few daters", and a 10 year relationship. my son was never a cause of problems for either the relationship or dating, however once my son turned 16 , got his licence, and became more independant, i found that i had enjoyed the time i spent with my son, away from my partner, more than i enjoyed time with her. a very common scenario with couples with their own kids, once the kids move out, the relationship's over.
the relationship i'm in now , my fiance has two boys, and i don't involve myself in decisions influencing their lives, but offer my opinion if asked. the boys offer me the respect any other adult would expect in their presence , and when they missbehave. as kids do, i will request that they stop. and most times they do.
i dont think there is a right or wrong answer to the topic of this thread, it's like most things, sometimes it works out, othertimes it doesnt, but you wont know unless you try
one thing i have insisted on though , is that they never forget who their father is, and we never resist any contact with biological parents

I am sorry you felt left out. Obviously kids come first but if he can't find a balance with having both his children and a partner in his life, something is wrong.
WELL, I WAS SINGLE MUM FROM WHEN MY DAUGHTER WAS 2...UP TO WHEN SHE WAS 17.GOT HER OWN GREAT LIFE NOW..BUT I TRIED DATING DURING THAT TIME..HER FATHER REFUSED TO EXERCISE ACCESS SAYING I WAS THE ONE TO LEAVE SO WAS MY PROBLEM ..SO NOT ONLY WAS DATING DIFFICULT BUT SO WAS TRYING TO GET A JOB..12 WEEKS A YEAR SCHOOL HOLIDAYS..I DIDNT GET EVERY SECOND WEEKEND OFF.... My kids are always put first, just who I am, I've got week on week off with them and I have parents who are there to baby sit when a concert or special ocasion is happening, but I'm not into social drinking on a regular basis and the kids generaly go wherever I go so that means most outings are family based.
Kids are more fun most of the time, they're not as selfish or self centred and come out with some very funny quirkiy things at different times while some women are so serious and stuck up.

I agree, jeez they are hilarious mostly, and often embarrassing!!
For the same reason women do, i suspect, people want company and ultimatly someone to share their life with. For those who are parent's, it can be abit of a juggeling act (dating), and for it to work they'd need to find someone who can have some understanding and patience when there are kids involved... i'm assuming you've dated men who are caught up with parenting, distracting them from focusing on you?...

Wwould you be at the beach playing with the family?
Would you go to the disney movies and eat the popcorn and choc tops?
Would there be a games night playing UNO, snakes and ladders or going camping at the prom?
Would you go to the theme parks with them and ride the roller coasters?
Anything a family would usually do for entertainment should be able to be done with a date included in the scenario.
Most people with kids aren't into the late night clubs and pubs scene anymore.

fair enough if people include kids sometimes.. but especially when a relationship is just starting I dont think kids should be hanging around all the time.. even married couples or people with kids together need time away from the kids

Sorry Tassie, but from my perspective kids make this world. I could not imagine a life with no time for kids, mine, yours or anyones. The greatest time of my life was a couple of years ago when I spent a year being mum and dad to a little 3 year old girl who calls me granddad. there is no biological link but make no mistake I am her granddad. LOVE is what it is all about. Surely if you are on a dating site looking for love, then you should understand one of the greatest sources of love this world has, our kids, whether they are ours, stepkids, fosterkids, adopted kids or just kids that accept you. Sorry JMO
I'm sure the adults in families still do the adult stuff, they just pick their moment, ie: after the kids are asleep.
