Medsummer: "could this happen in your country"
Depending on the country it probably already has which has led to their government and society today. If you compare the times of the revolutions in regards to how the people were ruled when it happened to how these people are being ruled today.
A short list: Magna Carta in England, French Revolution, American Revolution, Russian Revolution and so on...

tomcatwarne: Ah yes Watt Tyler springs to mind. You just have to look at current afffairs in the middle east to notice the trend, I usually do have a concrete basis for my comments

Hi BestBefore
I agree with you... China is certainly going to make its way to the top... and with speed ...the impact will be felt... everything that says ' made in China' on the label will not be cheap as chips anymore.. and as a result we will have to go without or pay more ... depending on individual circumstances...
when we find out that our wage does not cover the lifestyle that we expect... we can cope with that... but when we realise that we are paying for ' others' to have a wonderful lifestyle at our expense... then
just about then... we may begin to feel very uneasy....
as it is... with our recent natural disasters that we now, no only have donated to... we are going to be forced to pay new taxes on...
hello... we are waking up... and yes... our retirement age was changed about a year and a half ago... we need /have to work for longer...

..... G'day possum
Yes, we have to work longer because we are living longer these days. An aging population is a big problem regarding welfare and care, where is the money going to come from now ? Society is really going to be tested soon !
The East/West see-saw it tipping rapidly, living standards could become transposed. Perhaps it is the East's turn to exploit our future lower pay rates !

Hope it is Cream, and not the Usual Stuff that normally rises to the top!
gleneagle: i didn't think there were any commies still in America. I thought Joe Mc Carthy got rid of them all. They must be an endangered species at this stage. I agree with the right to bear arms but not by people who are certified as mentally unstable or ex cons who have abused that right to bear arms. i do agree with some form of entitlement to folks that lose their jobs. Its the folks that just don't want to work that I hate supporting.
Nah, they put Joe McCarty in a cage before he could get 'em all. They're still here. They just call themselves "democrats" instead of "communists" now.
I'm with you. There should be a bona fide safety net so that productive people don't starve just because they hit a bump in the road that gave them a flat tire. They should have access to a new tire.
I'm not sure the government is the right entity to handle the problem, though. Too easy to scam and the result is a whole bunch of people who are clamoring for more government money and services and demanding that everyone else pay for it while they sit on their arses. The whole system needs revamped. The idea should be to help people survive until they can get profitable again and take care of themselves, not to give them a "reasonable quality of living". It's not "a living" of any sort that the government should provide; just a hand UP.
