Anyone who can tell a truth so great that the Church reviles him and puts all his works on a banned list can't be all bad even if he didn't rearrange the universe, personally. rolling on the floor laughing

He wasn't event he first guy with the heliocentric model. He was just the first one that had the stones to put it forward knowing full well it would make him persona non gratis with the Church and powers-that-be. He gets two thumbs up from me for that, alone.

jac379: It's up to all of us.

or ?

Actually, i am tempted to suggest, with my very limited observation of course, that each of us is doing something, big or small, everyday to effect changes. We may not be able to see those changes because not all changes are visible. the good thing is that our societies are doing just enough to accommodate those changes accordingly. But as soon as our societies stop to accommodate those changes, the revolution almost inevitably will take place. French revolution and the russian revolution, just to name a couple, are the result of nothing else but the failure of our societies to accommodate changes.peace

I think nobody told Ghandi, or Mother Theresa that one person couldn't change the world. I think that if a man has a dream for good, and works hard to realise that dream, then he can change the world. Many inventors did it, and people like Mme curie, Eddison, F.Nightingale, hundreds of others with a one track mind on their goal.........hug

I was tempted to post on the butterfly affect, too, but thought better of it. We all change the world to some small degree with some unlimited possibility of consequence with everything we do. At least that's one theory.

What does it mean to change the world? How are you going to change it? Make it better place to live? Well, I don't know, whether it is getting better place to live? It does not seem people are getting more virtuous over time. We have better technologies, but are we better people? Will we ever be? dunno

One person did change the world !
His name is Bill Gates.........ceo of Microsoft Corporation.
He has changed the way we live and do things forever.

Except for him we would not be able to have this conversation now !!!!
He has just spent the last 2 years trying to give away 100 billion dollars. He could not do it !!
How crazy is that ??

I wouldn't be crediting Bill Gates for simply designing an operating system. Sun Micro were the ones trying to network the world.

I'd be more likely to credit Walter Hermann Schottky who invented the first semiconductor diode making modern digital electronics popular. Remember, there wouldn't be a building or power supply big enough in the world to give you the valve equivilent of the computer you are sitting at right now.

And a couple of centuries before him, you had Charles Babbage with his difference engine!
