Godsgift: I wouldn't be crediting Bill Gates for simply designing an operating system. Sun Micro were the ones trying to network the world.

I'd be more likely to credit Walter Hermann Schottky who invented the first semiconductor diode making modern digital electronics popular. Remember, there wouldn't be a building or power supply big enough in the world to give you the valve equivilent of the computer you are sitting at right now.

And a couple of centuries before him, you had Charles Babbage with his difference engine!

Yes, but they did not change the world !!!
Bill Gates Did !!

Big difference.

When man first learned to walk upright, there must of been one that did so first - shouldn't all progress, fundamentally, come about in the same way?

It's not about operating systems !
His plan was to have a PC in every home and school and office etc.
People laughed at him at the time.

Guess who's laughing now ?

That would be correct but did he walk around and help everyone up.
An idea or principle is only effective when it is used by more then one, Edison invented the light bulb, Imagine if no one was interested in production or any of the aspects that would go with production. Same with Columbus did he build the ship, buy all the food, row the boat over etc. One person can have an idea that can change the world but like they say it takes a village to raise a child

You can do what you can to make your own lil corner of the earth better and if everyone kept that attitude, the WHOLE world would be much, much better!

The power of a single man to change the world cannot be underestimated.

I'd be delusional if I thought of myself as great as any of them. On the other hand, waiting for someone else to do all the work instead of doing the little I can ain't right... each of us should do according to his ability.

One person can change the world. Technology didn't just appear on its own....one person invented something and on and on and here we are today. Miracles and atrocities exist because of humans, of course. Too many examples to talk about, would take years.

It's similar to winning the lottery. Yeah, someone has to win, but anyone's chances of winning are 0.000001%. So, if you were to take the question personally, and think if you can win, you would conclude that no, most likely not.

Change the world by changing me...

Reminds me of a story of a guy in his 20's WHO ASKED GOD to change the world...and not a soul changed.

In his 40\s he asked to change only his family and friends...and not a soul changed.

In his 70's,he asked God for the grace to change only him..and he thought to himself,if he would have asked this from the very beginning.......how he wouldn't have wasted his life.

I think it will change, it will always change, it is in constant change, but even any kind of drastic but positive change is beyond our will.
I just see that from myself and from other people I know: nobody can change drastically by sheer will. Furthermore, one never changes in any degree that way.
So, to me the world will change (in any directon it has to) by forces beyond human will. sad flower
