Grew up in Fermanagh. The majority there have never wanted to be British. Not at the time of partition and not today.

tallman51: I spent a lot of time in Belfast in the late 70's early 80's.
Lots of my friends were killed up there.
When I wave the flag, I wave the same flag that Michael Collins waved. The flag of the Republic of Ireland. 26 counties.

The Union Jack is the flag of Northern Ireland.

Don't talk to me about serving or dying for my country.
My dad spent 33 years in the Irish Army.

To further back up my claims...and to prove you wrong.

If like you said you spent alot of time in the 6 counties...Your lack of knowledge is shocking to say the least.

Personally, I'd say you (like others) are ignorant of the facts. And distort truths. (Not a slur on you...Just calling it as I see it.)

Glengirl: I'm sorry, I am in no way political, but Ireland has 32 counties.....there is no way you can dispute that, the fact that 6 of them are under British rule does not change that fact
What a load of twaddle, Ireland is two countries, Republic 26 counties and NI 6 counties.... Just because it's one land mass means nothing...... Africa's one land mass and has many countries.........Get used to it

Exactly, some people think that just because Ireland is an island it has to be one political state! Ironically these same people are usually all for the Scots and Welsh having their own countries, which is a total contradiction!

No..Because the places you've mentioned are countries. Correct me if I'm wrong and post me link stating the 6 counties is a country...

I can back up any claim that I post concerning the 6 counties..

Northern Ireland is located on the island of Ireland but is a constiuent part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (the UK).

Wales is a principality...not a country.....Scotland has as certain amount of automony....

No.
Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
It's position within the Union is the same as Scotland's - although Northern Ireland was never an independent country.

Concerning Scotland...

{b]There are eight accepted criteria used to determine whether an entity is an independent country (also known as a State with a capital "s") or not.

A country need only fail on one of the eight criteria to not meet the definition of independent country status. Scotland does not meet all eight criteria; it fails on six of the eight criteria...

Not fussed what they think...A fact is simply that a fact. Nothing more or less.

And the fact is neither the 6 counties, Scotland (Irish who couldn't swim grin ), or the Wales are counties...

The 'six counties' (real name: Northern Ireland) are part of the island of Ireland but part of the British state. Therefore there are two states on this island, can you grasp that fact?

Snowy, please show me once where I posted that that the island of Ireland is united...

But you have stated on several threads that the 6 counties aren't part of the island of Ireland but in your last post. You cleary admit it isn't so....

By your standards it is or isn't...But don't change you positon. I never have....

The '6 counties' (why can't you call it by its real name by the way?) are of course part of the island of Ireland, one look at a map will show that! but in political terms they are part of the British state, don't think I've ever said anything different!

I could post the links to the threads..Very easily done. Why do I refer to the north eastern part of the Island like I do...

Simple...I don't, never have recognised the border or the statlet in the north. I was born in the north eastern part of Ireland, same a someone born in Galway comes from the western part, Someone from Cork in the southern part, Dublin in the eastern part...

And for those who are intrested in what the state of play is in the 6 counties today...Goto the radio ulster site and start listening to the Nolan show which was broadcasted this morning and listen to a senior police officer and what they think about the state of play....He backs up what I've said. That phyical force republican are not only training, gathering intellingence and becoming more deadly by the day...

As for officer10 on the 'locked' thread...Remember he said the gun is out of Irish politics...Please explain to me as to why there was at least 175 bomb and gun attacks carried out last yr in the 6 counties??? (almost one every other day...) This morning outside Lurgan there was a bomb scare....

I'm not saying it's right or wrong...Simply telling the facts as they stand today..;Not harping on (as loads do) about Dev, Collins, Barry or Churchill...But the reality on the streets today...

That's all very well written and emotive.

But, it doesn't change the fact that there is a border between the two COUNTRIES.

Libra70, it's a divided country not two. The six counties are controlled lock, stock and two smokin' by westminster...Not Dublin.

I've never said there isn't a border...What I've always said is the border is wrong and I totaly disagree with it.

You're allowed to disagree..

When you are writing, by snail-mail, to somebody living in Belfast, do you put on the address 'Northern Ireland' or 'Via Westminster'?
