Bodecia: In this day and age, the idea of "Class" levels is considered something that belongs to the past, together with race discrimination and world poverty.
Of course, the latter two still exist, and sadly probably always will. I believe it is the same with the class system.
There are always going to be those who were born into a more priviliged world and whose family were considered "wealthy". There are those who are what they call "New Money", who to a certain degree replaced old-fashioned aristocracy, even in so-called "Republics".
There are also those who claim to denounce their upbringing, claim to be a "Person of the People" and fight for the common man.
However, ideas of "class" come in different guises; some are looked down upon because their spelling is not great, or their fashion sense is considered dubious, or their accent is not cut-glass.
Can humanity ever truely get to a point where we are all equal, are all classless, and no-one is considered on a higher ranking than anyone else?
Who judges others in this capacity more? Men or women? Or are they both equally judgemental?
I fear there will always be "Snobs"; whether they be literary, financial or otherwise.
Yes, there will always be a class system. To not have one would require equal ability, equal effort and equal luck amongst everybody.
Class is simply not as prominent today because of the volume of people that live as if they were middle class. Undoubtedly however, recent times are instilling a degree of clarity to the matter.

Finally In my opinion a great post. Class in my opinion is kindness, a great heart. An evolved soul and self awareness and being your authentic self, Knowing the truth and are honest. I guartee you . Love will heal all. The abundance of God is ours to eternally share. Peace on Earth will be revealed. The older generation speaks about class. It was so important to my family. excluding me. I am the different one . I am the one with no class. I am the one with the high scores and have helped more people then most people have ever met. Class to me is education, God and true understanding of forgiveness and Why we are here. In my place Young Money is drug Money. Old money is from working for 35 years every day with a suit and tie. I am glad we are evolving to recognize artists and creative people as brilliant instead of the wrong sort. I believe ,we all have to get a long. I wish every one would. This wish will and is true. This is the beginning.

Getting rid of classes would automatically require forced socialism. Otherwise classes would develop spontaneously as people who are more motivated, more capable, smarter, more devious, more socially skilled (or whatever) would start to try to better their own situation and would rise above others.
Socialism is much more about holding people down than it is about lifting people up.

I agree with everything other than Socialism being able to achieve a classless system. Even a Marxist society, in practice, is forced to obey sense and give roles to people based on these people's abilities. From these differing roles comes divisions, from these divisions comes the classes.

I wasnt suggesting getting rid of classes, I was asking if people think they still exist.
lifeisadream: Classes have existed always and they will always be. What are those classes based on?
Money Education Culture etc....
Not there is not classless society, not even in the socialist nor comunnist countries.
Why would I want everyone to be equal in one class? What I would want for this society to be is: everyone with their basic needs met and from there people work their way up to their goals.
I do not mind people who are better prepared than me with a better income, on the contrary I do applaude them (assuming their activities are legal).
Only in the mind of a progressive, left leaning individual. Republicans, IMHO, tend to be Darwinian (e.g. survival of the fittest and the heck with everyone else).
If I were to move to an impoverished place, I would be "rich". It's a matter of geography to a degree. $100,000 in Guatamala probably gets you a lot of stuff.
