you thought i had mistaken a section and needed to post it in a "current events & politics" section ???

nah...you're wrong grin laugh

i'm only trying too hard to find my perfect match...tongue

and, in my case, the question would be "Berlusconi or Bersani?" doh

we all have seen here how much politics (and religion) are topics that catalyse major number of fights...

a couple will fight on so many facts of the everyday's life that adding the political/religious differences seems to open an avenue to possible serious problems...

though, it's obvious that the exeptions can exist, it is also evident that the affinities in politics, religion and social activities can be a great "glue" for a couple...

probably more than look and personality, the usual aspects we consider in a possible partner, if it is supposed to be a long term relationship...

this topis was partially inspired by the movie The Way We Were directed by Sidney Pollack with Barbara Strisand and Robert Redford in which two very different people meet, fall in love and merry but at the end their social/political differences lead to their separation/divorce

Giannini has since studied up on English and successfully transitioned to English-language films. Notably he's appeared in the past two James Bond films, Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. (His son was cast opposite Madonna in the execrable remake, Swept Away.)

Anyway, I disagree about the 'gentle debate' style you mention. I think screaming matches about that sort of thing (ok, not literally screaming, but heated arguments) would still be ok, as long as both partners understand it's about that stuff, not about the other partner, or about their relationship.

in italian we say: who leaves the old road for the new one, knows what he's leaving, doesn't know what he will find...

choices, choices...wave

or, in other words: comfort or adventure?

i haven't seen Giannini in James Bond's movies...only read about it but i recall him for instance in the The Talented Mr.Ripley based on a novel by Patricia Highsmith, another english-language movie...

hmmm...i can see your point in having heated (circumscribed) political arguments, though i will still tend to consider them as risky for a long term relationship

in italy we also had a famous couple with very different political views: Giorgio Gaber, a famous song writer, the strong supporter of the left wing, nearly a falg man for the left wing, and Ombretta Colli, an actress, that became a counselor of Milan city on behaf of the right wing...so, yes it's possible yet kinda rare...

now you made me think that this thread reminds the "is a LDR really possible?" threads...
