Good old George Noory, on Coast To Coast AM, advising us, seemingly in conjunction with one of the show's advertisers, to buy gold, and at what may turn out to be the top price, when he surely ought to be telling us how very affordable is residential property in what used to be his home-town, Detroit Would you buy there? I would

I recommend watching "Requiem for Detroit", it's a brilliant documentary.
It's the historic home of Tamla-Motown, and some of America's finest musicians There's the Marvellettes, Martha Reeves, Smokey Robinson, Mary Wells, who seldom was given the best material, but whose perfect balance, excellent phrasing, and sweet voice made her the best of all, in my view, plus Little Stevie Wonder, who at an early age, and in a live recording, made what is arguably the greatest rock 'n' roll record ever – `Fingertips´

The parallels between Liverpool and Detroit touch me deeply because I was born in Liverpool. And though I wasn't there when The Mersey Sound came about, I do know that it was about promoting the sort of music seldom found on The BBC Light Programme, or even, if you could sneak a portable under the bedsheets, Radio Luxembourg. It was to do with reviving rhythm and blues and rock 'n' roll. And those musicians would often turn to someone in the British Merchant Navy to fetch them some records of that sort from the USA
.......detroit, just like cleveland, ohio has cheap property ........however- the areas are usually dangerous beyond belief.........to live in either city, one needs big dogs and weapons........as regards noory- i mistrust the man.......
It was strange how, in the early-Sixties a record that hardly made an impact on America was brought back for the proponents of The Mersey Sound. Ritchie Barrett's `Some Other Guy´ was covered by several Liverpool groups, including the Beatles
And a generation later, one of Detroit's best musicians, they say, came to be obsessed by it. Jack White of The Hentchmen consequently made one of the best-ever recordings of it
My parents had a shop, with accommodation behind and over it, plus an apartment to rent in the loft, together with a block of about half a dozen garages. And, probably because it looked so bleak at the time, they sold it in the mid-Seventies, for so little that it would now seem unbelievable. But now, it's in a desirable and expensive part of town. Are there similar opportunities in downtown Detroit, or its Indian Village?
not so sure about the Detroit thing, I worked down there and it is no that great a place, watch the Movie the Crow and RoboCop and you can get a looksee on what Detroit looks like, on the otherside of Lake St. Clair is ok and then you would have to Journey to Ann Arbour to get back to reality,
On the news (Detroit I seen a Police Chase and the car being chased ran over a guy, a typical detroit afternoon, One guy I knew had a Gun held to his head Stick up,
Easy to listen to what is being said on tv but to see the real thing, Detroit is Scary, they burn houses down on Halloween Night, never mind the tires in the middle of the road on flames....
Can this be true? The authorities are mystified by sightings of numerous unidentified fying objects over Detroit and its environs, in an area that's come to be known as `The Detroit Triangle´ Animals are disappearing, just as boats and things go missing around Bermuda. Particularly concerning is the way that talking birds such as budgerigars are vanishing overnight. Covering the cages offers no protection. Now the Feds have been brought in. And the rumour is they've discovered that the aliens are actively acquiring such creatures, by teleporting them up to their flying saucers, so that the poor things can teach them Arabic
As a former stock broker you should know the pitfalls of buying real estate in an area you're not familiar with let alone in another country especially a city which in all probability has seen its best days and what with the ascendancy of China may never see them again. BTW, this is the best Stevie Wonder song. Not Fingertips.
Much of what I learnt as a `stockbroker´, has since been forgotten, I'm afraid – you know, accounts, taxation, etc. And so, I'm hardly learned, am I? But I am familiar with buying `real estate´ in a country with which I'd be contemporarily unfamiliar – I live in one of those properties now, you see. Isn't it immature to think of China as ascendant, for with its flawed political system, won't it fail, and way before we could? Now that you've opined on Stevie Wonder, Little or otherwise, would you be so kind as to let us know which would be Roy Orbison's greatest recording? I'd say it's `Blue Angel´, much as I admire `Ooby Dooby´ BTW, how does one get a YouTube window, such as the one you've put up, pasted onto a comment box?

It's interesting to read these posts about America from non- Americans based on what they've seen on the telly. Bad thing about gold is you pay to have it "held" for you too. Much like a fee from mutual funds based on a percentage of your holdings. If you want something stable, invest in energy related industry. When was the last time you heard of a power plant closing due to debts?
