Just got back from my best friend and her husbands house. He called and said that his golden retriever had just gotten hit by a car and died. My oldest golden is just one week younger than theirs was and they grew up together....their dog was just like one of my own. I have dealt with too much death this past 2 years...not sure I can take anymore. Just venting...thanks for listening.

One of my babies is my black Golden Retriever, Kohl. I have a LOT of empathy for you, believe me. I have cried over many an animal that wasn't even mine. I'm a huge softie when it comes to animals. I'm so sorry to hear about the doggie.

Sorry to hear the lost of your dog's friend.

I've lost a few animals myself and know how it feels.

I just added two companion kittens for my 5 year old deaf cat who I think is going blind. Well I must say they have become quite the Trio...hehe

Next addition is the fishies...my daughter has been asking for years...the dog is for when I have my house. I still miss my last dog so much and don't feel ready to replace her yet. Also with my recent move it would not be a good idea.

retrievers are great. I had a black lab named Montana. so most likely will be getting either or.

Thank you everyone for your kind words. A true animal lover say alot about a person. I live with my sis and my son while i'm in school and together we have 3 dogs, 6 cats and an african grey parrot...never a dull moment around here. I don't want to lose any of them and feel so bad for my friends....that's why when they called, i took dinner out of the oven, put it in the fridge and ran out the door.

Sorry to hear about the loss..comfort hug

I would be heartbroken to see one of my animals get hit by a car.

Actually as a little girl I was heartbroken when I lost my kitten "Tommy". No one told me ehat happened to him until years later, it still breaks my heart. He was truly my buddy..Come to find out my older sister broke up with this guy and he ran over my kitten as revenge..sigh

We become quite attached tp our pets and to some they are children...

thanks so much...that is awful what happened to Tommy. How in the world could anyone intentionally hurt an animal. Good thing your sis broke up with him...might have been her!

I am sorry to hear about the death of the dog. I know how close a pet can be. Growing up in a family without love I can understand the love a pet can give. A pet can love you unconditionally. After my wife and girlfriend died my little dog was all that I had. When a raccoon got a hold of him I held him the whole night. I thought he would die, too, since everything else around me was dying. I gave my mother the plants my wife left me with because I could not stand to see one more sign of death around me. The my dog got stuck under the house for two days. My cousin from across the road finally helped me with a bunch of relatives to get the dog out from underneath the house. I had heard my dog cry for two days and it was driving me nuts. We about tore up the bottom of house trying to get him out. He had gotten wedged trying to go after that cat that lived under there that my cousin who used to live here had left. My cousin stuck a broom handle under there to dislodge him and my dog took off running out. My little dog sure was hungry once he got out. All I could keep saying was you dumb dog but I held him. It reminded me of something dumb that I might do.

Wow...I'm glad you got him out of there. You are very right about the unconditional love. Animals are great, no wonder we grieve for them just as a loved one....they are part of our family!

Just last month the neighbors Pit came into my yard and killed our dog. My daugfhter and her friend watched the whole thing. My daughter took a broom and tried to break it up. I had to tell her to stay away or the dog could go after her.My dog tried to run away but the other dog grabbed it by the hip and wouldn't let him go. Then he dragged him by the neck. The officer said my dog died from a broken neck and spine. I couldn't stand watching it. There was not a thing that could be done. I haven't see my 21 year old son break down and cry in a long time. When I seen this, it choked me up. We had him for 8 years. My daughter use to have a habit of dressing him up in kids clothes and the neighbors would see puppies and dogs running in the front yard with clothes on. I am sorry to hear about their loss....
