They are just trying to encourage people to put up pictures of themselves. Generally people like to see who they are talking to and the site is set up for connecting people.

Well I must say I find images of sni**ering dogs highly offensive and the mods were right to pull the image and they were also right to ensure that you couldn't upload such images in future
