Anymore earthquakes out there and you won't have to worry the infrasture.

Your quote is a well known urban legend without any validity.
Here are two known variations:
We sleep soundly in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm. - falsely attributed to Winston Churchill
People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf. - falsely attributed to George Orwell
Neither Orwell nor Churchill ever said it. But both are often cited as having done so.
In another version of the same imaginary citation, Owell is often quoted as having said in his 1945 "Notes on Nationalism", that (for pacifists),the idea that "Those who ‘abjure’ violence can only do so because others are committing violence on their behalf." is impossible to accept.
However, that quote too is a fabrication. There is no evidence that Orwell ever wrote or uttered any version of this idea.

robplum: I agree the Taliban are a bunch of lunatics who engaged in complete stupidity.
And how many Taliban has anybody here ever actually met?
robplum: For Allied forces to think they are righteous in using violence in an attempt to change the karma of people born with the karma of killing and being killed is just plain stupidity.
Mankind has been trying that sort of venture for a long long time and at the end the karma's of killing and being killed will continue
My idea of Karma is the way Jesus described it. We reap what we sow. Whatever any individual, group, or nation does to others will return to them in kind eventually, and in double measure.
The very idea that a helicopter was "shot out of the sky" by a "rocket propelled grenade" is extremely dubious.
An RPG is not a guided missile like a stinger. If the helicopter was moving the chances of hitting it with an RPG are very slim.
And if the helicopter was really "in the sky" and not near ground level the chances are absolute zero.
If there are indeed any genuine insurgents in Afghanistan equipped with stinger-like portable ground-to-air missiles capable of taking out helicopters in flight then the US will quickly suffer the same fate as the Russians did in Afghanistan.

From what I understand it was taking off after having conducted the mission.
Ibotabo: One of the questions I asked myself on this issue is the many praise we are told and still read about on this so-called “seal team” they appear very weak and useless, but we are told a lot about them. When they were going after bin laden they had knew or shall knew how ill-prepare Bin laden was, they had enough technology to master that and they were very able to arrest Bin laden, so why the elite of the world killed innocents? I like how the movie “swat” started and I really enjoy this phrase “S.W.A.T means special weapons and techniques so where was your technique”? If you know that the most praised seal team killed non armed persons, one of their helicopter broke down in the middle of very impotent mission, and now 21 of them were killed in one attack in a mission which was not any near sophisticated, I think the question shall be ask is how elite of those seal guys? How well prepare they are?

Black Hawk Down Solomia, Ray. bin Laden operatives trained the local militia to fire volleys of RPGs at low flying US Helos. They have used the tactic ever since.
The good thing is RGPs have a limited range. Helo can fly above them. But when in landing and takeoff they become vunerable to RPGs fire.

Have a little respect Juan. They are soldiers not road workers.
Ccincy: Although I do have a son in the Army my heart does out to the families for thier great lose. But and here comes the but..I don't feel our country should be policing the world.
Wow_Factor: More than 20 US Navy Seals from the elite unit that killed Osama Bin Laden have died after their helicopter was shot down by insurgents in Afghanistan. They were among 31 American Special Forces troops and seven Afghan soldiers who were killed when a rocket-propelled grenade destroyed their Chinook helicopter.
