Today I got really ticked off at work. So I approached the management and simply told them I’ve had enough of the company bull and if they want me to stay on I would be expecting a 12 g pay increase effective immediately. Two hours later they called me up and yes.

Are you getting payed what you are worth?
Have you compared what your position or your skill is worth elsewhere… maybe its time you did?

Firstly congratulations handshake

And no, I'm definitely not paid what I am worth .. I am paid a salesperson's wage when my role encompasses a whole lot more and I have worked hard to achieve the skills required.

I will be asking my boss for a pay rise when she returns from her vacation as it's not gonna happen otherwise thumbs up

PS. Women seem to be renowned for putting up with this situation .. shame on us doh

well done ajax
Remember, once you get used to a certain pay level, you never go back to a lower pay level if you were to go into the job market.
Being self employed. I'm responsible for the pay i get and can influence that via better service, better awareness of the business or better pricing and stock
I'm working on the awareness issue tomorrow with WIN comming over to film a comercial

You might also give someone the confidence to go the boss who may end up firing them or they quit and unfortunately realize there's a GFC out there with not to many opportunities of getting any sort of employment especially in retail.

Asking for a payrise is a delicate and strategic manoeuvre. It requires plenty of self-evaluation and preparation and obviously needs to be presented when the time is right.

If a person is unintelligent enough to go off half-cocked in discussing it with their employer, it's unlikely that they had the goods that deserve reward in the first place.

You could also be in a high unemployment area where there are countless resumes on your bosses desk from wishful thinkers waiting to pounce, all you need to do is say boo and the boss fires you and goes with one of the wishfuls

I think it all depends on your qualifications and how much they are in demand. Our place advertises for weeks at a time to only get one or two calls from unskilled people. dunno

Absolutely thumbs up

There might be countless unemployed people out there but many of them may not have the ability to step immediately into a skilled role in an industry.

Experienced, skilled workers are the backbone of any organisation .. they are valuable and worth looking after as it costs a hell of a lot more to train new staff.

In my workplace we have been running on skeleton staff on many occasions as top-flight salespeople are thin on the ground - they are already in good jobs and are being looked after.
