I know you would have to know someone in the music industry...and I have only met a few along the way, I was never that close to them. Some have recorded , I have even attended CD launches... but they were never really big artists.

I loved your choice of song, John.

I do however, have a question... obviously with your love of music, you would own a few CDs... so tell me... how many do you believe you own. And do you have a personal library for them?

I don’t have a collection of CD’s or DVD’s now because Music is readably available on youtube, local radio station websites and other sources. I once did have a great selection of vinyl records, but I gave most of them away or sold them by auction. The Internet has taken over most of the Music Industry.

Much of the new Music today is copied by Musician Artists who produce the same songs in a different version. It’s great, but it’s not as original. There are exceptions though. Many Cover Bands that copy original Music and post them on the Internet aren’t very talented and are looking to make fast Money.

More Studio…this is a fairly new Classic; original written by Graham Nash from Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. This is a good example of a successful and worthwhile copy:

Chicago feat David Gilmour, Sir Bob Geldof & Chrissie Hynde

Firstly , I really enjoyed the song. I have one of David Gilmour's CDs sitting here on my desk. I love his work.

When I was driving through the US a couple of years ago, I noticed that you had an excellent choice of radio stations. I live in the country here and the choice is limited. I get tired of the advertising ... so CD's become my relief. Although, I have to be more careful... I tend to speed when I have rock music playing. Although when I went through the salt plains in the US... rock music was allowed. grin

I also do not have a radio in my home... Very strange considering I grew up having to own one. So I love the CD player... if I would stop playing a CD a hundred times over it might be better. grin I have a heap of them sitting here in plastic , simply because I can't bear to take the one out that is playing.

We do have great FM radio stations in the US; mainly older classic rock Music or newer contemporary modern music. Most have worldwide internet links…we just need to find where they are.

I’ll try these links from my local radio station in Cleveland, Ohio {Home of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame}:

That museum looks well worth a visit... I have never been to Ohio... in fact, I have only been to ten of the US states. Although if the skinny little man from Cleveland , Ohio is there... laugh I am not sure I want to.

Thank you for sharing once again, John. I am enjoying the learning curve here.

thumbs up Abagail!

I'm not the skinny little boy from Cleveland...sometimes I wish I was! yay

Local Bar Bands are very popular here.

Believe me, Cleveland is very cold in the winter.

This song goes way back in Cleveland history:

Hi John...wave I'm not an expert on music like you are but that song sounds like something from the 60's. I can see Volkswagons painted in colors with men in beards and headbands driving their half naked women to Woodstock...laugh

I’m not as disabled that you think. I had a blood clot in my left leg {Hospitalized} for a month that kept me off of the Internet…all those years of telephone pole climbing in my cable television career took its toll. I’m fine now and can Dance anytime.

Sorry about my misunderstanding John. I was also hospitalized for a blood clot after a knee replacement and had to go on Coumadin for a long time. Thankfully I'm done with that.

Well then..........let's boogie....cheering banana dancing dog

You have some rather brilliant local music to choose from, John. I think you are quite charming as you are, so I am glad you aren't the skinny guy...

If I had to show you local talent... I will show you Tracey, a friend of mine. Well when I say a friend, her sister was my sister in law... so I remember her well before she was recording; as a goofy kid with a beautiful voice and a beautiful smile. I recall once that the business I was working in, I had her CD playing and she walked in. She was so surprised that I was promoting her CD for her...

But here you go... here's her work...

The trend nowadays, at least in the US, is to promote new Music and CD’s on Late Night Television. Chrissie Hynde from The Pretenders is one famous Musician that I’ve talked to as well as David Gilmore and Joe Walsh. Write and give them a compliment, they will write or call back.

I have always loved her song, "Creep"... thanks for sharing.

Musicians are not completely unapproachable... No-one ever is. Just because they are in the spotlight does not mean they will not stop and chat to someone who chooses not to be. I have met a lot of politicians in my life and laughed with them. Regardless of the fact that I may or may not believe in their policies.

One of my most interesting musical acquisitions was a CD I received off someone I befriended in an odd way. I was flicking channels , and stopped on Jerry Springer... not something I would normally watch, but this day he had people on who had made music videos about his show. I laughed at the one that was playing, wrote the web address down and chatted online to the guys for about two years. They were lovely. They sent me a copy of their rather unusual CD. (Obviously I offered to pay for it, but they thought it was great that a copy would be in Australia)

A good source for an easy and freer way to build a CD collection is through your local Library. I have a great one near me that has a good selection of CD’s; old and new. People rent the CD or DVD free and burn a personal copy on their computer for the price of a blank disc.

Until now, I had no idea they had whole albums on YouTube. No wonder people tend to use their computers for music. Although every song is considered an upload for me, so eventually in the month I hit my limit and it all slows down. I changed my upload amount , only to find that now I am on this site listening to music more, that I am hitting it faster. laugh

I have never been into the library in the town I live in. I know where it is vaguely, but I guess I have so many books on my own shelves, there has never been a need for me to go there. In fact, I am trying to recall the last time I did go to the library... it was when my daughter was young, and I used to take her because I thought she needed to be exposed to as many books as possible. Mind you... She owned hundreds of books, because of her parents love of books.

It seems John... that you teach me something new each time you slip in.Thank you. bouquet

As you say Abagail, times have changed. The age of computers is upon us and has changed the way we gather music and other information we receive in the news. Newspapers and other fine print from Libraries are being downscaled and maybe becoming obsolete.

The new information technologies are coming at us so fast, that we can’t keep up with it unless we purchase new additions to our existing computers or purchase a new one. I phones are on the leading edge of this new trend.

I read an article this morning that said “for every job that the internet has taken away, 2.1 jobs have been created’.

I will never understand why some YouTube's are blocked to my country. I have been 'good'.... behaving nicely even! I do know this song though, and I like it.

I think if the internet companies ever get a reality check in Australia, perhaps people will listen to music online more. However, they charge you for every upload... so often your connection is slowed if you use too much in a month. Which is deadly for music!

I do love my CD's though, it means I can listen any time in the house, the car, take one to work... I have never got used to Ipods... I don't like having things in my ears... I am not even particularly fond of mobile phones.

The time will come though and Australia will jump on the bandwagon.

Some youtube videos are blocked in the US also. It depends on whether a Musician, Band or producer has made the video available to all Countries and they control the right to block videos to certain Nations. Copyright Laws also play a factor. Some Nations forbid some videos.

Downloading videos is completely free in the US if they are featured on youtube by copying the URL to your computer memory and then to CD.

Ultimately, the Bands or whoever posts a video on youtube, pays the fee to youtube. It’s free to the consumer. If the fee is late and not paid, action is taken to prevent the video from viewing.

This is much like not paying a utility bill. They disconnect you until the payment is caught up. Sometimes, they disable them.

If we ever catch up to the rest of the world, it is going to be quite interesting. Just as you think you have heard it all, along comes a musician that is brilliant.

I went to see U2... the introductory act was BB King... I will never forget it because I thought BB was brilliant and that was before the show started.

I had to try and recall what it is that you do again... I would have assumed you were involved in the production of music... yet, you are a journalist. Still an interesting occupation though.
