snowlynx: Indeed no, they are not the story, they are so good at deflecting the story on to others. In fact they are past-masters at it!

Its a skill all right

I guess no one is surprised that they would be associating with convicted criminals. laugh

vinny1967: I am not missing the poit at all. Gallagher did not know he was a convicted criminal at the time so his morals don't apply.

And from what I have read about this guy he aint no saint. Why people are not talking about him being in bed with McGuinness and Adams in relation to this is beyond me. He obviously has an agenda in feeding the info to McGuinness and as for Adams renting his office space.
Now their actions I find Immoral.

I'm sure he does have an agenda. Let me be clear a murderer like McGuinness does not deserve the office either.

I see the office of President as something special. I think the person who we elect should be of a very high moral standing. They can't have any skeletons to come out of the closet. Gallager is not of a high moral standard in my opinion. He collected money for FF from a gangster to start. And that money got him a face to face meeting with the Taoiseach! For me this is an unacceptable practice that is morally wrong. Anyone who has done this can't be president in my opinion. And if they other candidates had done something similar we would have heard of it by now. roll eyes

Would it still be an unacceptable practice if it was any other party apart from Fianna Fáil? Do we know FOR A FACT Morgan got anything in return for his donation apart from a photograph and a meet and greet with Brian Cowen? I'm not taking about rumour and speculation here. Morgan was subsequently convicted of fuel smuggling and tax evasion so I highly doubt he got any special treatment from FF.

None of the other candidates would have done it because they were higher up in their respective parties. Gallagher was basically a volunteer or a gofer (and not a bagman as you said previous because that suggest something illegal and what Gallagher did was not illegal) before advancing to the national executive commitee.

If you think that the other parties don't do the exact same thing (solicit donations and then send someone to collect the money) then you must be very naiive roll eyes

I bet if this had been Michael D. Higgins or Gay Mitchell, a lot less would be made of it.

Here we disagree. They have all fund raised for their respective parties with promises of meeting the leaders because thats the way things work. It's not illegal, nor immoral. If you think its only Gallagher that has done it thats fine. I don't. handshake
