You are right; of all elections this one is vital. It is vital to the well-being of the US that the Bush administration's policies of the neocons (which can be summarized as: 'If we kill enough people, the rest will love us') has to be repuridated so that we can start to rebuild our country and our relations with the rest of the people in the world.
I hope everyone will vote, regardless of your political views. The rate of poltiical participation in the US is among the lowest in the any of the industrial countries.
As others on this list, I'll be helping transport people to the polls tomorrow.
24 different Politcal parties in the USA the big 2 and those called the third parties this in not counting the other parties.
so many speak of majority rule always thought majority meant more than half,,, the idea of status quo until a majority vote is produced. .. it would motivate some to change things real quick. just the idea that they ask for volunteers to transport people so they can vote says alot too unclew sam should perhaps offer a bounty to all those who bring in someone who has never voted. I heard their are many Americans that have never ever voted. one guy served 2 terms of service in Korea and he says he never voted.
Yeah...sad really. I had about 10-20 people tell me this week they aren't voting. One vote doesnt make a difference they say. Yet they complain about the election turn-outs afterwards.
Yes another Minnesotan! In this state we do everything we can to encourage voters. As twilightstwin has pointed out you can register on the same day. Even if you have no ID if someone who lives in the same precinct can vouch for you, you can vote.
I am taking tomorrow off from everything and I will be out door-knocking at 9:00am and do anything that is required to get people to vote.
I live in the fifth district (probably 95% WASP) our three major candidates for congress are Keith Ellison (Black Muslim), Alan Fine (Jewish Republican), Tammy Lee (Woman Independence Party). You've got to love our diversity!
I havent heard that..."vouching" That would worry me too.
However if you do not have a state ID, or liscence. You need to provide them with the last 4 digits of your SSN to identify yourself. If that is unknown, you must call the office of the secretary of state, and they will assign you a unique ID number.
Yes we know it's impossible to get you to change your mind! This system is no more prone to fraud than people registering with fake or forged Ids. When was the last time you heard about electoral fraud in Minnesota?! I know you live in Ohio and are a bit gun shy but our electoral process is the envy of the world. Every voter creates a paper ballot, which is then scanned into a vote counting machine. In case of any dispute the hard copy of the ballot is right there.
I actually did find, the bit about vouching. There are 2 cases were I person can be spoken for. 1. a resident's caretaker can vouch for them (long-term facility, etc) and 2. also if they are registered and in the same precinct. Afterwards they are then given a unique ID number by the sec. of state. Huh, I learned something today!
