Just looking for a little advice for a friend.
She is with 3 and is have real trouble getting them to stop her contract.
She can get full coverage in her kitchen but if she goes to other end of house its one bar or less and if she more or less goes out her front door she loses network.

she has tried everything from getting new sim to having settings reset on phone, the guy 2day more or less told her that she has to stay in house if she wants to make or receive calls.

Anyone got any advice

there is the answer! I would tell them I am breaking my end of the contract because they broke their part of it by not providing me with a MOBILE service....it is a land line if she has to stay home and only in the kitchen to use her phone!
I would tell them I got legal advice and to stick their contract, and for good measure I would say that they are very lucky I am not looking for a full refund from them for any monies I had paid already, but if they pester me I might take them to court for a refund!
That should shut them up wave

Tell her to get a signal booster. Vodafone sell them so I presume 3 do too. Basically it strengthens the signal all over the house.

The router is obviously in her kitchen so the further she is away from the kitchen the signal gets weaker. Its because it has to get through so many walls. They weaken the signal.

Why would you have a router for a mobile phone?

Can't double quote sorry folks

If she breaks her contract they will not give her back her old number I was there today when she was told that.
She does not have a house phone so needs this one and she has told them she will be seeking legal advice. He was as cheeky on phone, she was told 2 months ago if she was still having trouble with coverage she could stop the contract but she never gets the same person twice as its India and they will not put her in contact with someone in Ireland.
We have a mast less than half a mile from us but today he told her the nearest one was 15 miles from us. Recently broadband was down and I was told myself someone was at mast when I could see clearly no one was doh

the real problem here is that its been going on to long, a new contract has to be canceled within 21days, if thats not done its a legal binding contract and very hard to get out of, best advice to give her is get a solisitor to write an official legal letter seeking the termination of the contract and the reasons why.

The easiest solution is to email them canceling the contract for her stated reasons, give a copy to her bank and stop the direct debit. The Bank may try to tell her that it's up to the phone company to stop the direct debit - that's nonsense, but if the Bank insists then tell the Bank that she is no longer authorising the Bank to take the money from her account. No point in wasting time - they won't sue for a few Euros.

Hiwave
She understands that she had 14 days not 21 to cancel contract but problem there was her son had just broken his leg and wasn't out of her own home for this reason.

if she stops direct debit she loses her old number which she has had for yrs

no advice just criticism..shes a dumba**...why would someone sign up to something that wouldn't work..its up to her to find out if the signal is decent at her house not the phone company...oh and she has a contract so she must honour it..you can't just go back on it after signing up for itdoh

Hmmmm.........Kind of surprised to hear the bad vibes 3 are getting here. I been with all the providers at some stage and signed up with 3 last October on an iPhone contract for 18 months. Best deal around at the time for the amount of minutes add ons and limitless 3G. Have to say I have not had to call them once and the service has been brilliant. I go to the UK a lot for football games and any calls or texts or internet usage in the UK come out of my allowance as long as I use the 3 network in the UK. Four of my family and about ten lads at work have all since got the same deals with iPhones and they all think its great too. Saying that I live and work in the Dublin area but never had a problem when visiting places like Wexford but obviously can't comment on Donegal etc laugh

I thought that too - but the 3G is useless were I lived and were I moved to. Plus I could have the phone next to me, it wouldn't ring but then I would get a text saying I had a message. I specifically got the phone so could use Skype to ring family in UK - ended up with a 125 euro bill over Xmas cos I could never get it to work and resorted to using the phone. Also the local phone shop supposedly checked my address and said it had 3G coverage but then when it didn't work - it was my fault for not buying a SIM and testing it before signing the contract.
That said - if I lived in Dublin or middle of a town I'd probably have been happy with it.
Mind you, got a Tesco SIM as they are doing 1 cent UK landline calls - before jumping into another contract and my coverage is atrocious.
I think it must be me, that I divert phone signals or something

70Libra: Here's where the cúpla focal comes in handy!!

I had occasion to phone '3' a couple of months ago about my sons connection. After half a dozen attempts with no result I tried again, this time as Gaeilge.

Funny this... they hadn't a bulls notion what I was saying/asking, but they (somehow) knew the origin of the call. I was transferred to an office here at home. Native English speaking with a proper Dublin Accent.

I still didn't get a result for my phone issues but at least I could vent with someone who 'spoke my language' so to speak!

oh thanks for the tip..and its perfect for someone i know wink
