LuvHurts51: Who really breaks one's heart? Is a broken heart caused because of betrayal by another person, or is one actually responsible for their own broken heart because they placed unreal expectations upon another person?

I heard a quote recently that went something like this...Every person needs to experience a broken heart at least once. It may heal but cracks remain. Without cracks no light can get in and your heart can never grow. wine

When it comes to our feelings I wouldn't try too hard to be logical, because they are two very different things. The good thing is that most of us have an innate ability to heal and to rise again above the mundane and the tangible.

We're each responsible for our own emotional content. However, being human we are frail and susceptible to certain heartaches. A broken heart is the result of one trusting and having that trust betrayed. I think trust from another is a reasonable expectation in any relationship so therefore in answer to your question, no, we are not responsible for a broken heart. It just happens. Part of the human dilemma and experience.
