I am in the army 11 years now - - - So much about my service to my community and country - - -
I used to work with youth at risk, these were young people who had fallen foul of the law and were looking at doing time, my job was to find out what was the cause of the offending and give them the tools and resources to find an alternative way of doing things rather than breaking the law and to assess whether they were likely to reoffend or not. It was a residential program so a lot of one on one time was availiable to work with the youth.
Towards the end of my social work career, i ran a drop in centre in conjunction with a church for the street community that offered a free hot meal 6 days a week, a change of clothes if they required it and other services that included budgeting and finding accomodation for those that wanted it.

I congratulate you for your service in your Country. My son also served in the Army and I know what a military Mom can be. Hope in your Country you get support for you and all those families that have their loveones serving.

I just weekly volunteer working at the James cancer center in columbus visiting patients on the floors, researching medical stuff, help in the family waiting and chemo areas etc.
I see you did a wonderful job with the youth. I will be mentoring probably on a one on one basis or group.I enjoy working with teenagers; since I taught years ago in Adult education. We are just getting started and have alot ahead of us..... Thanks for your sharing.

No laughing, when I was in middle school I was a Candy Striper (Red Cross Volunteer). Over the years I've volunteered for fund raisers for many different organizations. PTA is also a service that is needed and while my child was in school I volunteered. Recently we cut hair for a group of abused women at a local church.

I think people in Ohio are very friendly.Where I lived in Ohio for a very short time in a small town but was a life time experience.I voluteered also there. I remember going to help in a construction work at another Church and it was just like a big family. I also tried getting the Church involved in battered women programs since I wss an advocate at that time for that. Cancer survivors supporters have my greatest appreciation.I have lost dear ones too. In the name of all those cancer patients thank you !

All those wonderful things that you did are great to admire. You have alot of experience.Have you ever thought of opening a non-profit for the needy yourself? I'm sure you'll do great. Thank for your comments.

To be honest, I'm looking for something to feed my soul and have not found it. We have a backpack program for teens and I had ask who I need to talk to but have not heard anything back. Where would I start?

That sounds great.I am animal lover myself. Why not get those kids involved in adopting those pets, surely kids love animals..... I have an adopted mixed chigua-gua.Had to wait 9 months to get her; unbelievable but they called me at that time; was like expecting a baby. She is now 12 and still barking....
