one thing tho..i find i get bored bout midnight..u know when they get really sloppy n start repeating themselves and i get tired.

Should I say that I bought a bottle of baileys today and intend on having a glass with plenty of ice later????
I do drink, albeit not a huge amount when I am out. Some nights I drink more than others but I am very aware of my limits and ALWAYS end my night drinking 7up or water for the last hour.
I have been known quite frequently on not drinking at all although that is usually if i know i am not going to be surrounded by overly drunk friends.

All the nights I've had out involved me not drinking, ever, so, I 'spose I may be somewhat biased here Its not really a scene I'm into anyway, as already stated, drunk people are fun to watch/listen to for the first few minutes, but it becomes tiring, irritating and annoying very soon

Yes but if you're an alcoholic your night of abstinance has to be well away from any source of drink so you can suffer less withdrawal and try to pretend you are having a good night while you plan on getting rat arsed the next night.

The majority of people on this forum will probably say "Yes, I can enjoy nights out without drink" but the reality is that this is Ireland. We have a massive drink culture and the majority of people drink when out.

but drinking when out is very different to the binge drinking culture and the whole behaving like idiots cos.....ack sure we were drunk.....notion.
But yes we have a crazy thing in ireland where by it is deemed ok to offer a person calling to your house a drink....even when you know they are drinking. And the....ack sure one wont do you any harm!
I'd not offer a person who is driving an alcoholic drink in my house unless it was a single one and accompanied by a meal and a few hours of chatting afterwards.
(or maybe if i was to offer it would be a ploy to make someone stay...but thats a whole other thing

In the context of the question asked on the forum, the difference between "drinking when out" and "binge-drinking" doesn't matter. It asks whether people can enjoy a night out without drink. The majority of Irish people can't is all I'm saying. Cinema,theatre,etc may be different. But very few people enjoy going to pubs when not drinking!
usually concerts or comedy gigs too..if im driving..im being entertained i dont need booze as such..although if everyone u go with is having a few u do tend to end up laughing at them..

never depended on anything that my wit n humour to get me thru the night..can be a bit hard with the deadweight alcohol creates around u tho..
wouldnt even begin to know which tablets u even mean to be honest..im a smoker i have the odd vodka on occasion and thats it..pretty much unaffected by pills n tonics society has managed to make people dependent on.
think i head out for a few after reading this thread
