Think the Olympics does bring nations together - but at a price?

And personally I think that price is excessive? scold

It's a gravy train for lots of Olympic Committee officials, the next WINNING country to host the games will all travel to London to see how it was done.

The London hoi poloi of the Olympics Federation blah blah will all travel to the next Hosting Country to advice on how they did it, security, planning, BS BS etc. and so it goes on ....... redclown crazy popcorn

The athletes and patriotism are mixed in there somewhere.

Carl96190: Actually, Kizzy, there are cures for cancer and they have been known for quite some time. It is just that you will not get access to them because big pharma is not interested in curing cancer. The pharmaceutical companies want to treat cancer, not cure it. If they offer treatments that perhaps slow the progress of the disease (aka prolong your misery and death) they will make a lot more money than if they simply cure it.
For example, in the USA alone during 2005 about $200 billion was spent on cancer treatments. Do you really think that the likes of Roche, Eli Lilly, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, et al are interested in giving away that sort of profit in exchange for a warm and fuzzy glow because they cured cancer?
The cure for most cancers is vitamin B17, or laetrile, which can be obtained by eating apricot seeds. They are inside the kernel at the centre of the fruit.
This cannot be patented and sold for an extortionate profit, so you will never see it offerd by big pharma.
A significant proportion of the modern cancers are the result of the poisons that the food processing divisions of big pharma put into the processed and semi-processed foods that you can buy at the supermarket.
So at one end of the process they are creating the cancers and at the other they are profiting from offering ineffective treatments that usually serve only to prolong the processing dying.
You might also be interested to look at and .
I wish that there was a word more descriptive than evil to apply to big pharma, because they are beyond being merely evil.
As for concentration camps, no. Waste of money. My policy would be either get with the programme or leave. Subversives who did not want to leave voluntarily would be detained until some bleeding-heart social-liberal government somewhere offered them political asylum.
On the subject of concentration camps, did you know that it was the English who came up with the modern concept of concentration camps and death camps? Look up what the English did to Boer civilians during the Boer War.
oh hear everyone the doctor of the century has spoken,he knows everything, now he says there is a cure for cancer......bloody idiot

LiLee: Oh dear, what a shame there is so much negativity in this thread. I clicked on it hoping to share the excitment of the Olympics and connect with fellow Aussies who also feel patriotic about our athletic champions. Can we just put the politics aside for a short time and celebrate good will around the world for the only event where all nations come together in the spirit of fair competition, where young dedicated athletes demonstrate the very best the human body is capable of in various different sports. Can we not, beit briefly, be proud to live in this great nation. For me the Olympics is about what humans can achieve with dedication, persistence, fitness and positive attitudes. Go Aussies, I for one am cheering you on. :)
good on ya, there is always one or two that dont know how to get alife, and spoil it for everyonethumbs up

Carl96190: Well, Mr Rippleinapond, I have worn the uniform and carried arms for Australia (2/14 Light Horse).
Have you?
There is a difference between patriotism and being an unthinking sheep who is manipulated by the power elite who use bread and circuses to distract the sheeple from what is really going on.
I have to say that I enjoy your ability to use such descriptive words.
Will I be seeing you on the other side of the floor when I compete in the National All Styles mixed martial arts veterans' division final round this year?
No? Thought not.
no i havent carried arms for australia my friend only in the reserves. You may well see me one day on the other side of the floor my crippled veteran artist.i doubt wether you will make it to the finals in your unfit conditionmaybe you can brag about it lol.those who brag a lot hav nothing to brag about .i occasionally compete in veterans kata, and full contact,so i may well make you eat your words,or better still bang your tambourine for the last time on that tambourine mountain.
you better lose some weight, going by that pic youve got, youre 5 kilos over, not light enough to drop an axe kick ,unless youve got 6ft four legs rolling on the floor laughing

For goodness sake,
Every 4 years the top athletes get together and compete, 80 different countries some poor some well off, I think it is great, all that extra money that the games bring into the country that holds them,
All well and good to complain about all the money wasted on the games,
But the games are every 4 years.

What about all the money wasted on new years eve at every capital city in Australia
All the car and motor bike races that all waste money.

We don't really know how much money is involved and by whom the money is supplied, we only know what they want us to know.
The world has a lot of great people in it,and our athletes are just one group,be proud that Australia is one of the lucky countries that can do that,as for all the starving people in the world even if the games didn't exist there would still be starving people out there.

Well a bit each way for me.dunno

I think it is absolutely ridiculas the billions they spend on the pomp of the opening and closing ceremonies! its all to do with ego's on who has the the biggest and the best as usual.
This is a complete waste of money as everyone would tune in regardless.

yawn sleep

Saying that its good to see so many nations big and small coming together to compete' in fact wouldent it be great if they could settle wars like this.
Us humans are a funny breed we are not happy unless we are either fighting or competing against each other' maybe in the future they could get rid of the gene in our makeup that causes this ....but then what would that make us' doh

Every animal competes. In the wild, animals compete against each other for food,in the early days of civilization, men competed against each other in the amphitheatre of rome and in the dirt arenas in mongolia and afghanistan and in africa. We have evolved and got rid of the compete or die attitude,we now compete for entertainment ,we train,to reach our fittest point, then try and win against another for the glory of our country, and were still alive.People who have never competed and dont know the enjoyment of being super fit, wouldnt understand, they live a shorter life get older faster ,and nowadays these people are in the minority, because peopole are realizing if you dont stay fit you die.Wether there is money or not there will always be an olympics of some sort, and i feel sorry for people who put it down ,they are sorry souls

I understand where you are coming from but is it necessary to to spend all those billions on the opening and closing of the Olympics' England is in a pretty bad way like the rest of Europe and they will get the same amount of interest in them anyway...it just seems that because its not their money and just the poor old taxpayers hard earned they can throw it around left right and centre.JMO

I do enjoy watching the comps and have paid for a month ($18) for the Foxtel 8 dedicated channels to the Olympics Games, that way we get too watch them even if Aus is not in them at the time...one of my fav's is the Equestrian events. cheering

heheh Martia... could have guess that...

Interestingly tho... I have been watching my friends posts on fb... the lass who I stayed with who owns lotsa Appoloosa horses, she and others in the UK have been doing a running commentary on what they thought of the horses performance...

Now is that true that the horse that Princess Annes daughter rode was called Camilla... ?? I heard it on the radio..???grin
