Merriweather: heheh Martia... could have guess that...

Interestingly tho... I have been watching my friends posts on fb... the lass who I stayed with who owns lotsa Appoloosa horses, she and others in the UK have been doing a running commentary on what they thought of the horses performance...

Now is that true that the horse that Princess Annes daughter rode was called Camilla... ?? I heard it on the radio..???
it certainly looks like her haha

Be very surprised if that were true as the English press would have a field day and now Camilla is well in nobody would dare unless they had here permission.laugh

The Kenyan marathon runners who come from no where to win....no modern technology for them to assist in training....cheering

The cracks are beginning to show already? Lots of mumbling, grumbling and allegations against the Chinese swimmers? conversing

Especially the 16yo female Chinese swimmer who has shaved 7 secs off her PB in 6 mths and has swum faster than the fastest male swimmer in her event wow sigh dunno

Then there is the Aussie relay team not meeting expectations, setting themselves a high benchmark, gold medal that they couldn't do? Lots of blame game going on there?

JMHO

I know Aus has only one Gold so far' I just wish the media would get off their backs as its putting a lot of pressure on our Athletes to perform.
I also just watched Zara Philips get a Silver for England in the Show Jumping which was great but the pressure on poor old England to get their first gold being the host country is unbelievable as well.

Dont the media realise that they are not helping their respective countries' as when all said and done these Athletes are only human.
But as always the media is judge and jury, I would like to see some of these reporters get out there and see if they could do better.

Is too much empahsis put on the 'value' of a Gold Medal to not just the athlete but the country as a whole?? Does it really do so much for the country's well being? Or does it make us look better to other countries on the world stage?

Let's face it right now there are a lot of people loosing their jobs, are they thinking oh brilliant a medal or who cares? I just lost my job. confused

Maybe too a lot of pressure is put on the athletes but the ones from the AIS in Canberra have all the top professionals at their disposal inlcuding sports psychologists? But I guess there is no accounting for the emotions that happen in that moment?

its a bit like in the eighties, we werent doing that well, then there was a resurgence in the nineties ,we were winning gold.but its great when the little countries win,and you see poor people rise to the top in their sport and become a sort of king for a little while,it must really lift their spirits

I wish the broadcasters or Channel 9 would just once a day put the WHOLE medals table on for us to see?? Not just top 12 then Australia slotted in?

Doesn't matter if you come from a country that has won one bronze, it is still a great achievement? dunno JMHO

So annoying... grrrr

Just get into a segment ( have been watching the horses doing their jumping) and then the view goes over to something else..

I wish the media would let us watch one entire thing.... not just everything with aussies in it...

Being a multicultural country, you'd think they would.??mumbling

Good Lord,,,

I was reading the news

"What happens to North Korean athletes when they fail to bring home the gold?

ABC reported on Thursday that the state offers a carrot-and-stick approach to the Olympic Games; athletes can look forward to refrigerators, cars, and televisions when they win, and labor camp when they lose.

The rumors are unconfirmed, but ABC writes that "review meetings" after competitions often result in athletes' expulsion from their sports organizations and assigned time in labor camps."

now that is a shocker ..!!!!!!

Merriweather: Kizzy, I think there is a time and place for everything... and nothing cheers people up more than a bit of international competition..

The olympics is a tradition, and a great moral boosting show, and it generates tons of money...

I love it...

and I really at this time dont care to discuss issues of a sad nature that plague the world. These issues will always remain... the goal posts do not change hugely as time goes on... but for me, right now... I want to watch the world compete..

and if UK puts it on... well good on them...The people there need a huge moral boost too... and it gives everyone an opening of discussion..a time to feel pride, and its celebration time..

Dont mix up the good and the bad... you'll end up with a pot full of mush...

Go Green and Gold...

yay australia australia australia australia Whoohoo! lov the Olympics. Don't look like they are winning much though still it is fun to watch and we Aussies are true blue sportsman thumbs up
