ttom500: Why should the world prop up the Greece economy by giving it the Olympics games every four years? Simply because ancient Greeks decided to have a track meet back in the day? How would Greece support the winter games?
Personally, I think multi country venueing for the Olmypics is the way to go. Have two or three countries joining together. To support the games then, they have to develop a transportation grid that benefits them long into the future.
They share the cost of the event and can develop other joint revenue programs from the event.
Exactly...and for the most part all these countries enjoy hosting the event. It's silly that just because the concept came from a zillion years ago, doesn't make sense to keep it in one place. It's working how it is. And yes he asked for comments on ONE SIMPLE QUESTION! And I am rude for not reading every idiotic post? No I am not rude. Putting down a comment and then getting chastise for it's just a little far fetched. And others voicing opposition get the same treatment. Fuddy duddies.
Am seconding your post, though very unlikely the Inter. Olympic Committee, ever allowed to have a permanent country to staged them.-The proceeds from the London games as well the winter Olympics in Vancouver estimated to surpass 8 bilion dollars.- From this amount the IOC keeps 10% for running cost of the IOC, and the rest is given to the organisers of the games,country/cities,and for betterment programs for athletes and facilities world wide.
rizlared: I have been actively pushing this idea for years, The cost of putting on such a huge sporting event is just beyond most countries financial purse, sure some businesses chip in, but they gain, the rest of the country gets nothing. For Greece to host the games, financed by each competing country makes complete financial sense. Everyone gains, the athletes all compete on a level playing field (no pun intended) so records are based on skill, not environment. It will bring employment and more importantly money to one of the worst hit countries in Europe, which in turn could help reduce the pressure on other countries within the EU bailing out Greece, spain etc. The whole games could be organised by an international committee, to make sure of the finances and no corruption etc.
