Having lived in a few different countries and travelling i always recall booking into a Pension near Hamburg( rooms to rent in a complex kinda place) and asking for rooms for some other lads i was working with...Bob an English married man with 4 kids in his 50s and Graham ,an auld welsh bricky nearly ready to get the state pension...

The owner refused to give the other 2 men rooms but upon pleading and striking up a good banter and mentioning 5 previous pensions we had stayed in from Trier /Arnstadt/ Mannheim etc he slowly relented.

The local pubs i visited always treated me with more respect and my collegues were often jealous....

Now ive just watched the video of the irish lads attacking an Australian Politician while he was talking about doing something to combat drunkeness ....

Nearly everything you see in regards to OZ seems to be drunken Irish .....

So are these new migrants who have been pampered during the Celtic Tiger ruining the name of the Irish abroad dunno

note: Thankfully in poland the fans (tho i suspect it was an older crowd ), had a laugh without embaressing us

Hi Whitepaws.......I hope you really want to know how the Irish are accepted abroad and that this is not a stirring up thread.

For me personally, I have no reason to dislike people of Irish heritage.

But I will say that I find the Ireland forums very unfriendly. I have posted here many times and never get the respect of a response.

Maybe you don't want people from other forums to cross the pond into your threads. I don't know the reason and I doubt I'll ever know..blues

I think it's because you said a few stupid things about how Irish treat dogs and in doing so insulted an entire nation. You're not a bad one Monte. But it was a rash statement you made. My memory might be going, but you can correct me if I'm wrong. hug

It's your opinion that my comments were "stupid".

There were several Irish members in that thread who agreed with me.

I doubt I insulted an entire nation...it certainly wasn't my intent to do that but if I did, I apologize for that.

Do you have any idea how many people from other countries come in the Intl forums and bash the U.S. I take it with a grain of salt and look at it as just that persons opinion.

That you Maddog for your honest reply.hug

Since I know I'm not welcome here, I will stay on my side...wave

I believe you Pedro but this is about the posters in the Irish forums not liking me. The funny thing is, when the Irish come over to my side, we get along and respond to each other but when I'm in your community, the members ignore me. At least they don't attack me and I appreciate that.

Maddog said "You're not a bad person". I know I'm not a bad person.

There are more important things in life to think about. I never would have said anything if WP didn't write this thread.

Hi Monte,

You are not the only foreign poster who actually mentioned that you don't get replies.

From what I see, a lot of posters who only post occasionally on here don't get replies, so please don't let this bother you.

@ Maddog doh I didn't post on any of the dog threads as I didn't like a lot of the replies and insults from all sides, I actually didn't think Monte comments where stupid, she had a different opinion, so what? Too many people were run down around that time.

Monte and other posters actually mentioned before the dog thread to me that they don't get replies, maybe sometimes the OP's should make a better efford to reply to the occasional posters? dunno

We don't get more people involved if we ignore new posters, I think it actually takes a thick skin to start off as a new poster in the Irish forums, I certainly didn't get an easy start when I started off here (thanks HC grin), it didn't stop me but it might stop others.

You're mixing up two threads.

IN the HOPE thread...

"When I read the story I thought, if this happened in Ireland there probably wouldn't have been any discussion about giving this dog medical treatment. It most likely would have been destroyed (but I might be wrong on that). "

That's a gross generalisation. And can irk people. I try personally myself not to generalise especially when it comes to nationality in anything but wit and funny stereotypes.

As for the morons who attack the US all the time. They have nothing better to blame their own failure on life. Pass the salt. grin

As for not been welcome, no one decides who's welcome or not. And I'd see no harm in posting anything here, Monte. And I really appreciated your card post in the Intl. earlier.

Ireland as a country has a good reputation as an alternative holiday destination in Germany. I actually never met an Irish person before I travelled to Ireland uh oh, and all the Paddy jokes etc. I only heard here.

My family likes coming to Ireland, get on well with my Irish friends and vice versa, the only bad publicity for Irish people I ever heard is what I hear on the Irish media. dunno

I've posted on this before. Internet Forum etiquette is such that just because no one replies to you does not mean no one reads and agrees. It's the way it's been since I started writing on Discussion boards for nearly 15 years now. More serious ones than this I might add.

Her opinion on the dogs was not stupid.... her generalisation on what would happen the dog on the HOPE thread if it was in Ireland was!

I didn't know before what you meant by the HOPE thread but now I do. And I actually remember GlenGirl being angry with me and I will admit, my comment was pretty harsh but it was right after the Lennox thread. I think GG and I straightened that out....at least I hope so.

So it wasn't my opinions in Lennox's thread but more of what I said in the thread about the dog called Hope.

Thank you again for clarifying this...handshake

I think once we got past the "No Blacks, Irish or dogs" mentality, the Irish are now generally perceived as being hard working, honest and good craic.

Monte, with regards to you saying your posts on the Irish Forums are ignored so you won't participate anymore, I can only speak for myself when I say that I only reply to something that interests me, not every post that is made. It actually annoys me sometimes when I see an OP replying to each and every post, but again, that's just me
