When i'm home i try to use the gym at least three times a week. That would be either working out or swimming. The pool usually has a few kids in it. What with it being holidays you'd expect it. But the gym is nearly always empty. Its not one of the bigger named gyms so maybe thats why. But all these people who are going to gym all the time. Dont know which one it is. I reckon they think it makes them look good. But with obesity becoming such a problem in this country. In my opinion its just greed and laziness that is causing it. If people just cut down on the rubbish they eat and work out a couple of times a week. Problem solved.

If it really was as simple as that we'd all be thin. It's not.

Ok with some people it can be down to genes and I shouldn't generalise, but the majority of people eat the wrong foods and too much of them, they eat too much fast food, processed foods, if people took more care of the foods they are putting into their bodies, take time out to go to the gym just a couple of times a week, or even power walk, which costs nothing. A healthier life style is usually all it takes.
There was an add on the TV that said "My body is a temple" treat it as such.

I'm actually not talking about the genes at all. I'm talking about the assumption by people who don't know other people's circumstances that just because they find something easy that the other person should too. Some people have a different relationship with food, some people comfort eat. Saying to a person with genuine psychological issues with food (as many people do)to stop eating and exercise, is like saying to an alcoholic not to drink or to a depressed person to snap put of it, or a smoker not to smoke, it is NOT that simple for a lot of people. We should always be very careful not to apply our standards to everyone else. The world is not always black and white.

Again not criticising you in anyway, just saying it is a more complex issue than you paint it as.

The people I'm referring to are the ones sit on their couches and eat takeaways a couple of times a week, and when doing their shopping fill the trolley with frozen food, bung it in the microwave and feed the family on it, instead of buying meat and fresh vegetables and eating a healthy meal. Or the couch potatoes who sit there complaining watching TV, instead of getting out and going for a walk and getting some exercise.
I am not referring to those with eating disorders or psychological problems, in my professional life I have spent time with people with addictions, be it alcohol, drugs, food etc.. so I would be the last person to criticise anyone with problems, as I know how hard it is to overcome any form of addiction and I have such respect for those who do.
If you thought I was being flippant I apologise, believe me I wasn't.

JustLittleMe: Well.......simple on paper, but willpower and determination are lacking when people come up with their excuses.I stopped working out for 2 1/2 months due to injury and put on a stone, now putting on a stone in 2 1/2 months just goes to show how much food I eat.......but I wasn't prepared to diet ( I LOVE FOOD) but I knew Id be back running and working out soon enough, it took me 6 weeks to loose it again..........it took six weeks of 'hard work' to loose it again.

But that's exactly it. You know you love food but you are willing to work off the cals in the gym to stay healty and fit. Too many people love food and just let themselves get huge. Then thats when you get the excuses of the gene thing. Ot the old story of "I dont know why I'm so big because I don't eat much!"laugh

They are only fooling themsleves too. I was similar to you. I had a road accifent a few years back and smashed myself up pretty bad. Could not go to the gym for nearly a year! I put on some weight but as soon as I was fit enough to get back to the gym I lost it all again. It's all about will power and self control.

I don't think anyone is saying it is easy. We are saying it is very possible and a very reachable goal. We all know people can slip into a depression and eating cycle. But excercise actually helps depression so if they are just willing to take that first step and actually put in the effort a whole new world could open up to them.

If you are in the gym 4 days a week and actually doing the work then you can basically eat what you want. As their weight comes down they feel better about themselves and also the excercise helps with depression.

But we know its not easy...but it is very doable.
