I see the rock wall you are leaning against, it's lovely. I particularly like the stone walls you see in South Australia.

So is that why you don't need to fly to South America? Because you have a piece of it?

Abagail: You make Brussels sound so enticing, Merri. I really must look into it.

I have a friend who is near New York...(Not from CS... I don't chat too much here) I am debating whether to extend the trip and catch up with him for a few days...thus the reason I haven't paid for the flights. I will pay for them on Wednesday afternoon, after I have ironed out the details. The trip I have chosen has lots of guided tours...so it's a very busy trip and it's with a group. I am probably the only one traveling alone. lol

Well that is a good idea to go on a tour... with other people... It's not much of a holiday if you plan to be totally by yourself... although the plus side of that is you can set your own timetable...

I have never been on a tour group... but found in most hotels in Europe, you need to vacate the room fairly smartly, and if you dont get to croissant breakfast, you need to get your own... which in Italy was beaut, because fresh cream cakes everywhere, but in France, damn, it was too expensive..for brekkie, lunch and tea..

Never mind... I hope you have a great bunch of people, fingers crossed that you get to meet your friend and it all works out...

cheering cheering

Anyway, there might be a nice single fella in your group... you never can tell where they pop up... grin

Yes, Merri... Knowing my luck, there would be a real gent... manners, intelligence, height ...and he would only be 93... laugh

This is the very first time I have done a tour too, I probably should be nervous, but I am not. I have already paid the single supplement so I don't share with a stranger. Mostly because they weren't willing to send me photos of strangers I had an option with... I was going to opt for someone who sounded like Sean Connery, looked like Hugh Jackman and was hung like Donkey ( from the movie Shrek)....but that's the way of life.

Cream cakes for breakfast? Hmmmm... Now that is interesting, although the croissants sound more appealing. I hear the food is to die for in France.

If I was a bird, Tony...I would be a penguin!

Thank you, I am rather stoked that I finally decided where to go. I haven't really had anything jump out at me. I went to a travel expo in Melbourne last week, and got the brochure on this trip.

But why a penguin? You would see more of the world as an eagle. No not a cockatoo.
I have this fear of heights, even driving around these hills is scary for me, and even if we could fly all our lives we'd still never get to see the whole world. My brother is always off to london and scotland every 3 to 4 months well hes got the money, but he comes back safe every time. Wish you a safe trip.

Yes, this one just jumped out. I had no real plans. But then the thought of Niagara Falls as I read the brochure... well that sold it for me.

Ohhhh... Monday Morning I need to try YOUR breakfast!

Because a penguin still has adventures. The bird simply suits me more, mostly because it doesn't fly. I am terrified of heights...so much so that I had a panic attack on the edge of the Grand Canyon years ago. I had to learn to breath through the fear.

Last year I did Skyrail in Cairns...and that is scary, but I would do it again in a heartbeat. Cataract Gorge in Tasmania is scarier still and I have done that. I guess you have to go out and just think, " I will only die once, I might as well do it spectacularly". australia

You funny thing, you made me laugh, with " I might as well do it spectacularly" laugh

I remember climbing the Dolomites... and going up was a piece of cake... the vertigo hits coming down, and the mountains move in front of my eyes... so they tied a rope around me, and then I was fine... doh I was such a sook... it was a 13 hr day walk climb... I guess I was tired.. lol.

I had to google... They look breathtaking, Merri. Oh yes, it was definitely the walk...couldn't be vertigo! Geez, men... they should have known you needed someone to carry you on a stretcher bed while you are fanned... you know, in the manner you are accustomed to. giggle

I can't imagine you being a sook, that was quite a trek you made.

Abigail... the Dolomite Range which borders Austria, Italy is where I went... stayed in chalet for a week above the flora line, so there was just small bushes and rocks...in the mornings the chamois ( yep, that little creature that we dont think of when we wash down our cars) come out to lick the rock salt... Best part tho, one night there was a thunderstorm, and the noise just echoed and echoed round and round the mountains... Amazing... will never forget that as long as I live... rose

I hope you get an everlasting memory from your holiday... Its so nice to take a feeling home...

I googled the Dolomite Ranges, the photos are breathtaking... And there are so many ways to hike on them. That has to be a once in a lifetime opportunity, Merri.

I also googled 'chamois'... never having realised that it was not simply the name of the cloth. They are adorable.

The places you have been to, seen, experienced... are once in a lifetime places, Merri. I am envious of your travels.

Thank you so much for your thoughts, and for sharing a few of your memories. bouquet

Thank you, Curly... I was on the phone to a friend last night and he pointed out that I only have 6 weeks until I leave. I hadn't realised how quickly this will come around.

Abagail: Luck? Luck rarely plays a part... more hard work and sheer determination to get to places. I do take far too many photos though!

Congratulations on making your dreams come true Abagail! party

What a brilliant trip, you must be sooo excited! grin

I had never really considered Canada, Serene... but as I only have a couple of weeks to think about it, I will be flying before I realise what I have done. smile

As it gets closer, I have no doubt I will be more excited. Right now, it's just a little hard to believe I am going.

Thank you!

Abagail, I read your post re doing the tour thing, I've done a couple and found that meeting people from all over the world enhanced the whole experience plus there were always free mornings/days/afternoons where you could do your own thing grin
