Drinking and Driving:

I would like to share an experience with you about drinking and driving. As you well know, we have been extremely lucky not to have had brushes with the authorities on our way home from our various weekend outings over the years.

A couple of nights ago, I was out for a few drinks with some friends and had a few too many beers and then topped it off with an Irish coffee.

Not a good idea. Knowing full well that I was slightly over the limit, I did something that I've never done before: I took a taxi home.

Sure enough, I passed a police road block but because it was a taxi, they waved it past. I arrived home safely without incident, which was a real surprise.

I have never driven a taxi before and I’m not sure where I got it.

rolling on the floor laughing Well written and very funny, and I didn't expect that ending either!

Although this is a serious subject, I think anyone who has read Huggermans posts would know that he is a serious, caring and responsible person. This was a JOKE so I think some people need to get a sense of humour.

I'm taking this as funny in the spirit I hope in which it is meant.

But this is a serious topic as has been said. The purpose of not drinking and driving is not to be ok with the cops or compliant with the law. The purpose is to save lives. Regardless of our own safety, drink driving kills innocent people who just happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

OK.....rant over. mumbling

After the hangover, you'll realize it's not funny anymore. You painted your own car in yellow.

Huggerman, in the posts I have read from you, you have always come across as a genuine, caring soul.

I realise you meant no offence by this post, but some topics are seen by many as too horrid to joke about. I feel that you may just have crossed a line with people as many have strong feelings about this subject. I am sure that, had you thought about it, you would have had second thoughts about posting it.
