Saw a news article recently about some TV actress...I forget who...who discovered she had been legally married for years after a drunken binge in Las Vegas.
Legal quirks do happen, especially in the US, where marriage law technicalities vary from state to state, but other states recognize the marriage. Similiar situation happened to me (although not involving a drunken binge in Las Vegas). I didn't find out for six years.

Not really. This is something that rarely happens. It's bigamy and is illegal. I'd know that I was not married to him because he was not legally free to marry. I'd report him to the police and hope he was charged with bigamy and went to jail. He's a criminal, a lawbreaker.
