I'm slightly perplexed. This week in the o6c has seen a report into the brutal murder of Pat Finucane was released which showed widespread collusion within British state forces (RUC,MI5,FRU...), almost two weeks of illegal protests on the strrets of Belfast, Derry and else where, death threats issued to politicians...

And noone has thought of mentioning it (I seen one or two posts on the flags issue in fairness).

Why do YOU not post or comment about events in the o6c? Do YOU think Ireland only has 26counties? I've always considered it to have 32 counties.

Phoenix: Fair enough point HC. But they'll (poster here on this forum) talk about subjects that don't directly affect them or in most cases have no bearing on their lives.

It saddens me that fellow country men turn a blind eye to the injustices still carried out today that occur in the o6c at the hands of British state forces.

and at the hands of others from both sides of the community,

In general everyone believes and agrees that there was collusion. So it was no surprise.

I'm not going to deny that. But when the state forces who are there to enforce law and order supplied at least 85% of intelligence to loyalist paramiltaries, allowed 'agents of the state' on both sides to get away with murder, lie under oath..When cabinet ministers send out coded messages to 'whack' a lawyer, tells me British Govs since at least partition (and before) are as least as guilty.

Most out there reckon that catholics and protestants have been at logger heads since partition. Someone google 'relief riots Belfast'. You'll soon discover people from the Shankill Road (heart of loyalism) going to defend their catholic neighbours on the Falls road..

That event alone tells me people can unite, put differences aside for common purposes.

The British created the mess but are doing nothing to 'mop' up after.

You're a bit aggressive about it though. When that quare lad, Johnnywhatever was here, you sorta came on fairly strong asking about the Agreement. You then followed him into the UK forum and asked him there on his threads. I dunno... just seems a bit strong. dunno

More fantasy. It was very rare for people from the Shankill to go and defend their catholic neighbours, much more likely that they go to attack them.
The British didn't create any mess (unless you want to blame Brits for something they did four hundred years ago - which knowing you is quite possible) the mess is a natural result of two violent peoples living side by side.

Overall the Brits behaved with great restraint during the troubles, some collusion notwithstanding.

Other way about. I seen Johnny on the UK forum first. I'd like to know if he feels his 'Britishness' is being chipped away like the PUP, UUP, DUP, TUV claim.

He told me he comes close to the New Lodge. When I said probably Tigers Bay he basically clammed up but before said Yorkgate and asked if I was CID.

I'd seriously like to hear his opinions on the O6C. MD, they (protestants) need to learn the history of Ireland and they discover there is more to unite us than divide us. I know and can prove that the 06c is not as British as Finchley as once claimed by Thatcher.

After the RUC and British army broke up a mass jobless workers' demonstration, rioting became even more intense with both the proletariat of the Catholic Falls Road and the Protestant Shankill Road uniting to fight the armed uniformed shock-troops of the ruling Unionist establishment!

“First of all they saw Protestant and Catholic workers marching together, and Tuesday they saw them fighting together. The terms now offered constitute a magnificent victory.”

On the Falls, the police moved in with armoured cars and rifles. Bates, the Home Secretary, gave orders that live ammunition be used in Catholic areas in an attempt to whip up sectarianism.

This actually had the opposite effect and created greater unity. When strikers from the Shankill got word of the battle on the Falls, they ran to assist their Catholic comrades.

When the dust had settled, the state had killed one Catholic and one Protestant. When it came to the funerals of these martyrs, 100,000 lined the route.

I have no idea of what version of Irsh history you were taught in school snowy. But I'd avise you to go to night school and re-educate yourself.

snowlynx:

Collusion was about widespread leaks of information. In a period in the 1980s, MI5 assessed that 85% of UDA intelligence originated from the security forces.

Patrick Finucane was bringing the case of the Gibraltar 3, three IRA members shot dead in cold blood in March 1988, to Europe, which was going to be a massive embarrassment for Thatcher, who very likely gave the order for them to be shot dead also.

That court later found the three had been shot unlawfully. They had their hands up in surrender when they were shot down.

The 500-page report on the inquiry into the case of Belfast solicitor Pat Finucane reveals that there were “shocking levels of collusion” surrounding Finucane’s 1989 death

No Snowy no 'some' but wide spread collusion. Pat Finucane's widow was promised a full public inquiry at the Westland Pk agreement by the then British PM Tony Blair...Didn't happen under him, Gordon Brown or Cameron..

When I say Snowy you haven't a clue what you are talking about..Well hopefully most can see that.

They showed no restraint when they entered the Bogside on bloody Sunday and shot 13 innocent people dead. Nor did they show restraint on numerous other occasions shooting Children, mothers and fathers dead, innocent victims out in their own back gardens, playing in the streets, walking in their own town, and this is only in Derry I refer to. And worst of all they were there to gain/maintain LAW & ORDER. On top of that they claimed these people were a threat to them, carrying fire arms etc or caught up in the line of fire, putting these families through hell, knowing their child, husband, mother etc had no involvement in anything and knowing the only shot fired that day was there's. Have you ever seen the impact of a mother with a very large family of young children, being shot dead as she hung her washing out on her line, in her back yard, or a 15 year old boy being shot dead in the street and the army claiming he was shot in defense, yet he was an innocent child which the evidence has now proved, his parents died before they got justice, only two examples.
Evidence now shows the many lie's they told to cover the fact they basically shot innocent people dead and Snowy there was not even any trouble in the area at the time on alot of these occasions.
