When you love someone, you put them in a position of trust which makes you vulnerable to being hurt.

If they cheat on you or hurt you in any other way, that person has broken the trust that took a long time to acquire.

Trust is more powerful then love. You can't love again until you trust again.

Remembering that someone broke the trust you put in them keeps the door to loving again closed and the door to pain open.

It's the fear of trusting again that keeps you hurting.

Because they matter. random people dont

Someone who knows that you love them will not deliberately hurt you. That person simply does not love you.

There are some characters out there though who will play a power/manipulation game and then there are the psychopaths.

In every relationship, one person loves a bit more than the other. There are manipulators/players out there who are less invested than you are and they use that to their advantage. They're usually very perceptive and know your reaction ahead of time and they simply play with you. It's sick, but not so uncommon.

Then there are the psychopaths who really have no feelings of guilt, remorse, obligation etc. That's an illness though. They don't care because they cannot care. It's kinda like people who have no sense of smell or sense of taste. They simply cannot have that feeling and while they're good at pretending, they inevitably will hurt you when you are no longer useful to them or their purpose.
