The State of the Union speech and my thoughts ( Archived) (43)

Feb 13, 2013 7:42 PM CST The State of the Union speech and my thoughts
As I watched the President deliver the state of the union speech last night, My mind wandered back to July 27, 2004 when he gave the keynote address up in Boston at the Democratic National Convention for candidate John Kerry. If you have never seen it, you wont understand why people have said that this speech was what earned him 2 terms as President of the United States.
This is the full speech here: (18:47 minutes)
A shorter version with commentary here: (6:13 minutes)
My thought at that time was. Where on earth did we get such a speaker? Watch this speech and ask yourself why do so many haters say such nasty things about this great man.
I thought last night about the how certain events play out and not always the way you would expect.
John Kerry didn't win in that race ...unfortunately, George Bush did. 4 years later Barack Obama ran for President against Hillary Clinton and won the election. Subsequently he made Hillary Clinton Secretary of State. After Hillary Clinton decided to retire he gave the job to John Kerry.
This is the point at which I couldn't help but see the irony of all these events.
John Kerry ran for President & lost.
Barack Obama delivered for Kerry what some call the best speech ever made.
Hillary Clinton ran for President & lost.
Barack Obama gives Clinton & Kerry the job of Secretary of State.
Sometimes I wonder what John Kerry and Hillary Clinton think about how things worked out.

Hey Ooobs....Funny you should mention the speech of 2004. I watched it and at the time I thought....OMG, this guy is a great speaker he will go places someday. And he did and I wish he didn't.

I agree, he is probably the best speaker I've ever head but I think the second best was John Kennedy, Jr. 1988 convention. He was young and needed smoothing over but if he had given another convention speech in 30 years he would have been magnificant.

I watched the State of the Union speech last night and the most I got out of it was there will be a lot more spending and a bigger deficit.

He spoke about bringing the troops home from Afghanistan and like in Iraq some of the troops will remain I'm sure.

Then he spoke about the minimum wage being raised to 9 dollars an hour.
Whoopie.

He really didn't to awfully much what he hadn't said before.

In particular bringing the troops home. I've heard that several times before and he always finds a reason to keep them over there.

Talking about gun control was just to pacifiy the people who are on his tail.

Minimun wage increase is good for young people. It will encourage them to get away from video games.

That's brilliant. Now everyting will either go up again in price to compensate these people or they will get laid off because employers can no longer afford to pay them.

Or give the young people more money to buy more games with.

Obama's just blowing smoke to cover his little butt.He and his party won't do anything regarding guns anyhow. At least not anything that people will benefit from.I won't mention that one word that obby doesn't like me to mention.giggle

I know DD.It's obvious with the cost in living going up no one could really survive on making 9 bucks and hour.

The consumers usually get it in the end anyway.

Too bad those who think highly of Obama really haven't pulled their heads out of the sand, and take a good look and the Con man in charge. National debt is so high that the USA will never pay it back. I think that everyone who voted for Obama should have their taxes up to 90%, and live off the 10% you have left. While those who didn't vote for Obama will pay 10% of taxes and KEEP 90% of their income. When Obama can take responsibility for HIS failures, all of them and his lack of leadership is epic. When he said you cant cut your way to prosperity should have been a big clue to those who voted for him. Btw, in your own home budget, do you spend MORE then you take in then ask your boss for a raise to cover what you over spent on? or do you cut the crap and live with in your means? if you said yes, well your president isn't.

Riiiight, all he did was end 2 wars that George Bush started, killed the man that George Bush failed to get "Dead or Alive", fixed the healthcare system in this country that NO president has been able to do for 100 years. Hillary and Bill tried but they couldn't take the heat from the Repubs who were owned by the insurance companies and they caved and threw in the towel.

Newer Technology ended the wars and found Osama, and Obama is ruining what health care we had. And all of this stuff is non sequitur as obummer received the prize in 2009. He doesn't have his priorities right and he's the biggest liar I've heard speak.

If Bin Laden was supposedly killed by our government then how come they didn't show his body like they did with Saddam Hussein?

As far as ending two wars oh please if anyone chooses to call it that.

There's still Troops in Iraq probably guarding the US Embassy which we built there. That money could've been used over here doing things for our people. If my memory serves me correctly I believe that Embassy cost 58 mil or something like that. All the money that both of those senseless wars costs could've done a lot of good over here.

We could've just as well protected our country at our borders.

Man you're suffering from delusions. We have high unemployment, families incomes have dropped, more people in poverty than ever before, more people on food stamps, etc. The healthcare fix as you call it has raised insurance premiums and is going to cause them to increase even more, caused people working 40 hours a week to have their work hours cut to 29, etc. etc. etc. If you think he's been good for the US you must be a communist.

If Obama really and truly cared about what's going on here in the US he would do something in regards to all the mass shootings.

Not just run his mouth and then end up doing nothing as usual.

I always thought a President was supposed to work for the people not against them.

Hi Oregonwave I know and it ticks me off to no end.

I'm just glad I wasn't stupid enough to vote him in office the first or the second time.
