Nature123: Thanks Merri,
Hi pebs,
Hi blizzard

It is a rental property rob,if it was mine the problem would have been fixed by now,
The owner came up and fixed the outside roof,so he said, and the lights well what he could,
And I thank him for that as he lives in Sydney.
Then ceiling inside was still leaking, section of ceiling held up with 2 bits of fibro and a beam nailed to my kitchen cupboards,
Got s.e.s. out they put up plastic sheet and stuff on outside roof, said that was all they can do.
Now house is full of mildew, light the fire to try and dry things out and the ceiling cracks more,
Owner says its an insurance job, carnt get a roofer for 2 weeks that was 5 weeks ago.
Son and I are I'll from mildew,so we stay nights down with the girls, come up every second day to do cleaning,

Just so over it,don't want to pay rent for something we are not able to live in,

Nature... be careful... Mould is not harmless...bouquet

I understand that the owner is wanting insurance to fix it... clearly he has that right after paying for insurance, but surely... you could come to an agreement with him and tell him that you will move out until the place is repaired... as its dangerous for your health...

You shouldn’t be paying rent if you cant live in the place? Move to emergency housing and just move out, check with the tenants advisory first! But if its affecting your health then you should not be there?

Take care off your family first!

Hi Merri

He had one guy come out and have a look at replacing all the ceiling in the kitchen dinning and entrance areas, said it would be awhile before he could get a roofer in,
He said he would be up at a later date to pull all the lights out so the plasteres can come do the ceilings that is after he gets the roof fixed first, I took it in my own hands rang some roofers and they said they would be able to do it within a week,so that seems strange that he the owner couldn't get a roofer for a couple of weeks. But any way 5 weeks have past and have not had any contact from owner,he was going to get it fixed and then claim the insurance,

My boy has an allergy to a lot of things mildew being one of them,so my main concern is to get him out as soon as I can. When we got back tonight we opened the door and bam an instant headache. And I don't want to go and buy new beds and mattresses and every thing ealse just to have to throw it all out again, so I think the best thing is to move,

Hi blizzard,

Have spoken to the r.t.a. And they said still pay rent even if we are not staying there,
Environmentalist said she would come have a look and then they deal with the owner,

I will just get letters from the doctor about my son,go to the real estate and tell them we are leaving on the weekend,if it doesn't work out I will take them to court. I have plenty of photos of the damage,so I hope there is no problems.

Good on you nature, shouldn't have to put up with that, and still pay rent. Hope you find a nice place, but wouldn't be cheap. At the moment, i've found a few leaks, got tiles, so when it eventually stops raining its on the roof to fix them.
Good Luck

Sorry to hear your having a hard time at the moment Nature. All this rain is depressing enough without living problems as well. My son and girlfriend live in Rocklea in Bris, a low lying suburb. They have been having similar problems over the last few months. Their rented house is a queenslander but poor yard drainage means under the house has been constantly covered with a small amount of water, their yard is constantly boggy and all his tools are seizing up that are stored underneath the house. His girlfriend is pregnant and their bedroom ceiling has a leak and mould is constantly returning to the spare room despite constant cleaning. They have had enough as well and frustrated that the owner has done nothing to fix the leaking ceiling. They have complainmed to real estate several times. They are in a lease and worried about loosing their bond. I feel for them and you. It's horrible to be stuck in a difficult situation. I hope everything works out for you and them. hug

Hi Lilee,

I rang my real estate today and asked her to ask the owner if I could get out of my lease,as I would like to do things without any malace, the owner said yes that would be fine,no fees, no loss of bond every thing fine, thank goodness,so out of here Monday.

Your family can fill out a form from the real estate that gives the owner 7 days to fix the problem or they can leave with out any problems to their bond or any fees. Or they can get the council to send out a environmentalist and they get on to it and if not fixed in 7 days they can move out,or they may condem the house and they walk away with nothing, sorry about spelling mistakes in a rush,

Hope they have good luck getting their problem fixed.

About 1 year ago, I was looking at acquiring some invesment properties after one of my staff expressed an interest in buying 1 of 4 units on offer in a single block. 4 units on one block at very good prices. Looked at saying "We will buy the 4 but we will not pay what you are asking, one deal and all sold." Until I did go and have a look at them. First one not so bad, just needed a good clean and maybe a lick of paint. 2nd & 3rd had mould getting serious indicating work needed to be done. The agent had opened the 4th detached dwelling before we arrived to "freshen it up."

I walked out of there needing a cigarette to clear my lungs.help help The rental income versus the cost were very excellant returns but if I couldn't live there, how could I expect anyone else to live there. No sale.

Nature, I do see where some landlords come from, and have been in that position on a number of times (me, my brother and other family members have been landlords over the years) but there a few of us out there who would only rent out something that we would live in ourselves.

But it does sound like you had a landlord that wasn't really aware of what he really had. And why he is not pushing the point of your rental payments like some.

Hope you find a good home for you and your son.teddybear
