Yeah it's no big deal, you just have to apply a bit of common sense to it and treat them like snakes here, you just leave them alone, don't touch them don't play with them.

It's no big deal, it's been happening for years... as long as you don't try to handle the bats or flying foxes, your not likely to get bitten, I wander in around old mine audits that are loaded with bats and fly past you as you walk through brushing their wing-tips against your body at times, never been attacked or bitten because I leave them alone, not a problem....

the experts (a drip in waiting) reckons it is caused y something likened to rabies. Mean while mate of mine a marine biologist, who has extensively studied Fruit Bats (which is what they are talking about) the Bats eat lots of different fruit including mango, which is high in fiber, and has a hard fiber shell around the seeds inside the the fruit (the actual seed looks very much like a human embryo) anyway mee mate Lee says the Bats spit out what is called a "Spat" which a deadly fungus then grows on...

The nearest I've ever got to a bat is one flying around in my garage. It noted my surprise presence and hid in a sun umbrella. I noted its presence and left to give it some space. I didn't see it again.

No! that's a misconception spread around by Hollywood,The bats responsible for the disease here in Australia are the flying fox or more commonly known as the fruit bat.The problem is that their very easy to approach and some people try to touch them pick them up etc. Another problem here is that from time to time they get tangled in the barbed wire fences and when well meaning people try to disentangle them, it's easy for them to get bitten. but the bats themselves aren't aggressive in any way, they live in huge colonies and near sunset they head out in massive clouds of the creatures in search of fruit to eat.(hence the name fruit bat) They look like possums with wings, minus the tail.

Tell him that the bats are savages. Tell them they fly off with toddlers. That'll keep him away.
