Depends on the type of bar you go, here in my country people go to the bar for eating tapas and drink and chat ..very often the atmosphere is friendly, therefore, why not....

I'm not a big fan of bars or night clubs. Chances are you will get someone but mostly because they are impaired from the alcohol. Plus if you are offered a drink keep in mind the possibility that the person might have slipped a drug or something inside of it (A little Andrew Luster type thing). Plus there have been a number of incident at my town where a guy had accidently ran into a stranger (whom was drunk or very violent), and got his head smashed in which disabled his ability ro see or talk. the assailant of course was released on bond but I lost touch with the story. Bottom line is that places that involve alcohol can't be too good. Try the park, library, mall or heck even school etc.

As others have said it depends on the kind of bar and those who frequent it.
Here in Southern Spain everybody sits in bars or on the terraces with a drink, alcoholic or otherwise until the early hours of the morning, including groups of elderly Spanish women which I love to see. I've never seen anyone really drunk or fights. However, visit the expat sports bars on the coast run by the English, German and Russians, and you will more often than not see some loutish behaviour sadly.

A bit tipsy sometimes but harmless. A lot perhaps has to do with the fact that most have a bite to eat with their drinks, even if it's just a few olives or nuts.

Yes, and they drink water with it. I have to say,so many drink the non alcoholic beer.
jausten254: Bars are full of single people hoping to meet someone. Some argue men don't go to bars looking for a wife but I know of happily married couples that met in a bar. I think it depends on the type of bar, state of mind and person. A happy hour at a decent bar before 9pm has potential for good matches. Anything after 10pm with a lot of alcohol involved is tricky. I have met a handful of couples (straight) who met in a tavern or bar. It seems that smaller towns are better, although I'm sure it's been the case in cities, as well. I used to think it was a bad idea to meet someone this way, but have since changed my mind. Love/attraction can happen anywhere, why not a bar?

It is a common meeting area - sometimes called clubs or pubs or places to drink, listen to music and dance.....
there are a higher chances that the person you meet in a bar might be an alcoholic and that comes with it's own baggage when looking for a relationship.
