There was a time when the "Free trade agreement" held out hope, but unfortunately it didnt fufill its promise. It would make sense to have a uni-currency and be an atonomous trading block in the world market. We are the North Americas after all. Sadly, we are getting farther away from being progressive on this issue and at this point it wouldnt make sense for either Canada nor Mexico to assume the American debt.
The other consideration in this matter is simply the enemies that America has made globally.Again, neither Canada nor Mexico counts many of these nations as our enemies EG: Cuba, Russia etc...
There would have to be a huge shift in economics, fiscal responsibility and mind-set for this to ever take place.
Senator Dianne Feinstein (D) called and said, “I need to fly to Pepsi-Cola, Florida. Do I have to get on one of those little computer planes?” I asked if she meant fly to Pensacola, FL on a commuter plane. She said, “Yeah, whatever, smarty!”

Bogart_1960: Mexico and Canada part of US homeland
“Earths newest continent. Welcome to the Homeland, Mexico and Canada!” wrote Twitter user Kat Capps.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein referred to the US, Canada and Mexico as “the Homeland” at an NSA Senate briefing on Wednesday, presenting a map that united the three nations as one.
At a Senate Judiciary Committee meeting held to acquire details on the National Security Agency’s mass surveillance programs, Sen. Feinstein (D-Calif.) made a geographic mistake in which she united three large countries into one. The error went by without comment during the briefing, but generated a significant response upon closer examination of the map.
Although it might be easy to brush off the map as nothing more than a mistake made by a staffer, a writer at The Atlantic suggested that "it might indicate a potential NSA attempt at tallying thwarted attacks in North America to make anti-terrorism efforts in the US look more successful".

lifeisadream: The new reforms -in paper still- for the privatization (including USA investors) of the oil industry in Mexico might have something to do with it.
"Mexico and Canada part of US homeland
"...We got more and more potential sources of supply that are available here in North America with our closest partners Mexico and Canada," McKenzie said. "North America has a chance to become more energy-independent from the rest of the world."

Bogart_1960: Mexico now will be de facto "Homeland" province...dont forget to learn the new "song" (by lady gaga)- no more national anthem !!
You did not read the note and beyond that.
Mexico's energy reforms will take some time to be approved and in that foreign investors to benefit from the extraction, transformation, etc,......of the oil under Mexico's territory; could be from USA but also from other countries, including China, Venezuela, Brazil, UK, etc...

I did read that, but lets be "fair" on that. would you think, homeland would allow "China, Venezuela or Russia" corporations to be part of that?...
maybe Brazil, i would say. UK, french, and Netherlands, yes, definitely.
How funny, when in actuality North America faces a future of racial separatism. And what was once the US will be fragmented along racial-cultural lines.
It's clear that the honkeys don't want to live side by side with the orcs - and the feeling is quite mutual -, it won't be long before the shibboleths of the enclaved equalitards give way to White-flight as official policy.

So welcome to Homeland
The problem is that Mexico’s exports are mainly to USA so either Mexico gets more “important” partners for trading or makes the best agreements with USA regarding to the oil matter.
On the other side: Mexico's left party will be not content with Mexico-Usa agreements.

You are getting near reality.. now, just be prepared to learn the new "song"...
