Its not really a case of taking offense, but have you considered how you might be touching on some people's pain and loss?
Say, some people's parents have died, possibly recently, some people may have been adopted and feel its their non-biological parents who were the reliable ones, or that some people's parents were horribly abusive?
It also doesn't speak well of other relationships which are important to people. If I needed my daughter, she'd be there. Its not just a one way street where I care for her welfare, but she'd laugh her socks off if I were seriously ill.
What does this say about family structure? That parents are isolated in their own worlds being there for their children, with no reliability, or care for themselves from anyone? How is that healthy and how do we learn to be these dependable parents if we view other relationships as being so very different in their regard for others?

You couldn't be more wrong saying my parents stood by me, that I could count on them. They threw me under the bus more then once.
I learned the only person I could and still can count on is myself.
If god is your crutch and it works for you, then that's good but it doesn't fit it my life.
