lifeisadream: Why do children and women pick –cut- flowers and men do not?
Today I was observing people passing by a “wild garden” in bloom –sunflowers but smaller- and children and women did cut some and did take the flowers with them or did offer the flowers to someone with them.
Why men were not interested in the flowers? Thanks for your comments!

Obstinance_Works: Interesting. I don't know why women behave as children do... and kill flowers.
Personally I never kill flowers. The only flowers I've ever picked up were ones down at the graveyard.
That's funny Obs, a mate of mine used to give his girlfriend flowers all of the time, She thought he was the most romantic bloke on the planet, that was until she found out he was nicking them from the cemetery down the road, He's dead now, maybe karma came back and bit him on the bum?
lifeisadream: I think many men here like to be perceived as gay.
Not sure if many "like" that,, There is an enlightened group of men here,, but there are also some real phobes here,,, Notably rightwingers Personally I don't mind what anyone perceives me as,,, I like flowers, they are beautiful... I grow them indoors and outdoors,, I pick them too,,,

I love flowers, and those of blooming weeds too! By picking/cutting the stems off of a flowering plant you seldom kill it. In fact, it's quite the opposite! In almost all cases you invigorate the plant system by doing this, and where once there was one main stem it will branch out from the nodes below creating a stronger and more rigorous plant.
Aww Tru what a wonderful day you must have had fishing and picking flowers with a grandchild! Those memories will last a life time.
Now for the big question regarding why men are reluctant to pick flowers? Who cleaned the fish and who cooked it?

while living in the states, i came home one day to the house i rented and the entire front yard, and i mean entire front yard...was full of plastic flowers, all sizes, heights and varieties..easily over a hundred bouquets...yikes!... they were a gift from the neighbors next door...and had been taken from a local cemetery where the man worked... apparently they were moving things around at the cemetery and rather than dispose of them, he thought they would look nice in our yards.. (at the time, i left them there...not wanting to offend the 'neighbors' as i had just moved there..and thought...crap! does this kind of stuff happen to anyone else...)

It would be wise to ask them. I don't cut flowers to protect the environment.

yes..... i appreciated the sentiment... wanting to be a 'good guest' in another country...although i rearranged some of them, the flowers remained there till i moved back to canada a year later..
during that same year, a dear friend of mine graduated and was moving away, and hosted a party prior to her departure. she was also my son's first 'crush' (he was 6 at the time)
on his own, he went out and bought a dozen plastic long stemmed red roses which he presented to her at the party..
thanking him, she asked him, why plastic? to which he responded..."i want them to last because i will love you forever"

I do prefer to cut the flowers than to clean the fish and I would cook it.

What if plastic flowers were not the only item brought from the cemetery???
Did you check under the plastic flowers?
I would have not kept those plastic flowers, sorry.
How could I have gotten rid of those plastic flowers?
- I could have hired some boys to “steal” my plastic flowers.
But what if I had gotten more than the ones I had.
- What about “I am allergic to plastic flowers”.
or the last resource - Plastic flowers make honey bees get disoriented and that is in the Journal of Entomology!
