Yeah it's been an awful day for a lot of people around NSW, many bush and grass fires out of control and so far about 100 homes lost.
Just 40 minutes north of where I am, people have been told to leave their homes as a fire is out of control in the area.
Keeping an eye on reports here, so far there's only smoke in my area, coming in on the very strong winds that have been blowing since yesterday afternoon.
Temps over 35ºC here again today.

Torless the fires are burning in outlying suburbs of Sydney and areas further north and out into the countryside.
These winds need to drop significantly, night has fallen now making things even more difficult for emergency services.

Yes, thanks Torless, I'm keeping an eye on things - Sydney is a couple hours from here so the one to the north is more of a concern.
Fortunately we are not surrounded by bushland like many of the affected areas.

No I live on the coast in a built-up suburb but there are areas of national park and dense bushland in surrounding areas, so we need to be on the alert.
In answer to a previous question, the conditions right now are devastatingly perfect for bushfires - tinderbox dry as we have had no substantial rain in a long time, very high temperatures and strong winds.
Many Australians tend to build their homes in bush settings and even with the best of preparation, they don't stand a chance when a fire sweeps through.

I remember last summer Aus. had a string of plus 40 deg.days, that would be awful if fire broke out.
