A lovely saying, pedro, and its content has many versions in the realm of words.

tinyfangs: One can argue it HAS killed them. Dying is not always just about the physical form. You can have trust die. You can have hope die. You can have the feeling of safety die...

I think that is what these sayings are indeed about - to survive with scars (experiences made and memories of fear and pain), but to have managed to grower stronger from it all, by working with it in ways that enable you to cope better, instead of less well.
think we are all veterans of love on here well most of us anyways detective detective typing

This does not make the saying wrong, it just means many do not have the strength to deal with the traumas. I know people who went through huuuuuge traumas - and pulled through them and learned things they would have never learned elsewise.

sofarsogood74: I insult when someone is being pedantic for the sake of it which you obviously were. You were banging on how the saying was true when in fact I had given many reason way it wasn't true.

And now you say it could use some extra words proves that my points were correct and it isn't true. If a saying needs to be re-worded to become true then that saying is not true.

I think these sayings are also meant to give comfort and encouragement.
They are meant to let someone who suffers know, that what they have endured can be used for the better. They are motivational in that sense, and they are true in that it can be used for the better. I fell extremely ill when I was only 12, I went through a hourrendously traumatic treatment I'd not wish on the worst enemy, had to learn to walk again, and for a long time I was petrified when I felt the slightest pain in one of my legs, in fear it had come back - but - I learned many things from it, one being to not take walking for granted, to not take being pain free for granted, and thus I am looking back on the experience as something which in the end has brough value to my existence.

It is up to us what we make of the hardships life presents us with. These sayins tell us we can use them to grow stronger, at least in my view.

People are entitled to their opinions, it would be a very boring world if we all agreed, just because someone has a different opinion based on different experiences, doesnt make them wrong. Likewise , individuals cope differently with trauma, it doesnt make them stronger or weaker, we all have different coping mechanisms. Jmo cheers

People are entitled to their opinions. There are people who think the earth is 5000 years old as well as people who think aliens will be coming for them to bring them back to the home planet. We are also entitled to tell them their opinions are wrong and provide evidence of that fact.laugh

tinyfangs: I am truly sorry, sofar, but I feel it impossible to engage into a discussion with you. I have not insulted you nor showed disrespect to your opinion, I am just voicing my own, and try do so in rational ways.

I have met many victims of various different sufferings, and they surely do not wish to suffer, and they wish for hope that they can overcome. Sayings like these give motivation and encouragement. They tell us there is a life still waiting, a life will see us having dealt with our traumas. I do not wish to twist your words, but shall we just say 'it's fine you are broken now, just stay like that, will never be okay again' - would that be better?
think everyone is a victim of life in one way or another its very kind to some people but reaps havoc on other poor souls

It's not about bursting the bubble. It is about putting the facts to them to tell them the flaws in their beliefs. If a family member of yours started telling you how aliens will be coming for them would you leave them in their ignorance?

Plus it was tiny who responded to me in this thread originally and tried to counter argue my post.grin

Indeed, and I have close friends who endured some horrendous things, but they all managed to get past it, and I just wish everyone could, for as the way things are it seems we have little hope traumatic experiences will just cease to to be part of this world sad

In reality, I think its only westernstar who believes aliens are coming for him & he`s old enough to make up his own mind & who knows, maybe he`s right & will make fools of all of us! Any ideas from family members would be open to discussion tongue

I'm sure you would be open for discussion with a loved one about aliens coming for them or the world being ruled by reptiles. I'm sure you would listen intently to them and not try to "burst their bubble" in any way. tongue

Discussion usually means everyone putting their points forward, supported (or not) by evidence , you do make some great points, but "discussions" with you tend to go on for days until people eventually surrender or drop dead of exhaustion ! And I`m off to make a curry for friends, we may discuss aliens afterwards tongue Have a good one wink
