skyblue43: Well folks, what have ye made of the league so far?

Cork and Mayo are definitely the form teams and seem to be quite settled. Dublin will be there or thereabouts come August and September but still haven't put out a settled team. Ulster looks like it'll be as competitive as ever if not more so with Donegal, Monaghan, Derry and Tyrone all having shown good form. Cork seem to have the measure of Kerry but the provincial system means Kerry will still be there at the business end of the season....

Good call there Sky laugh

I didn't see/hear anything of the Derry/Mayo game today, but I'm not surprised by the result.....Derry are on a mission this year, and guess who has to play them in Celtic Park on May 25th help

I saw about the last 20 mins of the Dublin/Cork game. All it did was reconfirm my belief that Dublin are in a league of their own!! I don't know what the rest of the game was like, but what a finish by Dublin, fair play thumbs up

That hurt.....laugh

Anyhoo......is my bestest drinking buddy booking Monday, 28th April off work cheers

Stan, you have lost a true legend with Johnny Doyle. A travesty that he never got his All Ireland medal ireland

Thanks Glen, the way the GAA folk in Kildare are talking About JD's retirement, you would swear the county is undergoing a period of mourning. A lovely bloke and always gave his all.thumbs up

Yeah, Derry are looking like serious contenders this year and what about that 17 point turnaround by Dublin.

In fairness, they have brought football to a new level and it is great to watch them play.

Dublin have so much talent in the squad it is hard to see how any team can beat them.

Gavin will have his work cut out to protect the players from the hype that a successful Dublin invariably attracts, but if he keeps them level headed and focused, the two in a row is definitely on the cards.thumbs up

Hey Stan wave

Four or five years ago I would have no worries about the Dubs, they would have gone into meltdown, but they're different now, they have matured as a county and now take it as seriously as the rest of us.

Do you see JD as a future manager of the Lilywhites?

I haven't even thought about JD managing Kildare, I think he is going to be busy with the two year old and the infant twins for a few years.

Yeah, the dubs are a frighteningly powerful force at the moment.

How are Donegal preparing this year, do you think the hunger is back?

The hunger is definitely back within the squad but I'm worried. Derry are going to be a major test and to be honest, I don't see us beating them.

Lacey isn't the man he was, McLoone isn't fit to lick Lacey's boots and much and all as I love Neil Gallagher and Christy Toye (legends), it's a poor reflection when we have to rely on the old boys to pull us through help

I see another quarter final for us this year but nothing more

Well done, on what was truly, a frightfully impressive performance by Dublin today in beating Derry, at a canter.

I think it would be fair to say this Dublin team has another couple of gears if they are ever required.

An excellent performance by the Dubs yesterday, however what really matters is the Championship.

I still think the likes of Cork,Kerry,Tyrone and possibly Mayo will give the Dubs a good game in the Championship.

The championship intensity levels are completely on a different level when compared to the league.

As for the Ulster championship, what odds Cavan may win Ulster, they've built decent underage teams in frecent years and their senior team got easily promoted from Division 3 this season?

Leave Kerry out of that prediction and I agree with you 100% thumbs up

Dublin are still only operating at 65-70%, they get complacent when ahead, but so far, have been able to come back with a second wave of attack. I think they are going to provide us with an amazing championship!!

As for Ulster....Cavan????? laugh

I'm tipping Tyrone

Im finding it increasingly difficult to watch football.

The constant hand pass has made the game a lottery.

I'll stick to hurling this year.

Cavan are getting better at Senior Level, they reached the Quarter finals last year. It appears that their underage sucess is now coming through at senior level. They'd certainly give Tyrone a good game.

Their Under 21 Team were robbed against Dublin in the All Ireland semi final a couple of weeks ago.

As for Kerry, Colm Cooper is a big loss but I certainly wouldn't underestimate them, they took It easy in the league and will be ready for the Championship. They'd certainly give Dublin a right good game.

I don't dispute that Cavan are making progress, but they won't win Ulster. To me, they are like a club team. They have a great underage team but never seem to be able to bring it on from there....

As for Kerry, I think they are just stuck in a time warp and the way the game has changed over the last 3 years doesn't suit them. Yes, they have skill, but sometimes that's not enough.

The Munster and Connacht championships are a joke anyway, Leinster may through up an odd good game but it's not until August that the real fun begins ireland

It mightn't be the worse thing ever if Dublin failed to win Leinster this season, It would certainly knock the complacency out of the team and prepare them properly for any qualifiers.

It's very difficult to retain the All Ireland title these days, only Kerry have retained the All Ireland football title in the last 24 years (2006 and 2007).

What about Donegal and Monaghan's chances this season? I remember watching the Ulster final last season and I nearly fell asleep given how bad the game was.

With Cavan doing so well at under 21 they can only get better but still not good enough for Ulster. Cork in Munster, Kerry will give them a good game but they are falling back but they will be back, football keeps changing and we are going back to the days of real football and not all this blanket defence and that will suit Kerry but not this year.
Well lets just say its Mayo in the west and unless the sky falls down and pigs fly its...... Wicklow for Leinster.

stanley8m: It doesn't matter who leaves Donegal this year, no team is going to beat Dublin. The bookies already have them at evens for the All Ireland, and three of their players are the favourites for footballer of the year, before a ball is kicked.

Hey Stan wave

Don't ya just love it when the Dubs are favs for everything this early in the year laugh

Thing is, it's actually quite accurate this year. They're only working at 70-75% so far. Barring a catastrophe, they have to be odds on to win Sam this year. At this stage the only team I think can come close to them is Cork and of course the brave Tyrone will always give them a rattle or two.

Only 10 days until Ulster kicks off applause

PS.....welcome aboard Noel, join in the fun and games as the summer gets going wave

Thanks Glen, I don't normally big up the Dubs Chances But after seen how they took Derry a part with out getting out of second gear and with out their 3 under 21's and with Dean Rock to come back and maybe even Cieran Kilkenny later in the summer, things look good for us, but this game is never that simple.

Hi Noel

I know the media have a tradition of hyping up the Dubs every year, but with the amazing talent in this squad of players, the only team in Ireland capable of beating Dublin's first team is their second string.

I would go so far as to say, the entire 2014 championship is just a formality. All Gavin has to do is turn up at Croke Park, and unleash the Blue Beast, sit back and watch them tear the opposition apart.

Stan thumbs up
