stanley8m: Yeah me too, maybe they do have parishes and souls even, it could be that it is just our inherent prejudice presuming they are all godless demons.

Perhaps Sky could enlighten us.

Sky will try. The 'Parish' means more the longer established clubs, like St Vincents, which had local feeder schools normally run by the clergy. Newer clubs in the suburbs would obviously have their borders more associated with housing estate borders than parishes. laugh

As for the souls part I'm not so sure. A certain midfielder yesterday would sell his to the highest bidder roll eyes

In all honesty it would mean more to the captain than it would to most. He is a devout christian and a religion teacher. thumbs up

Diarmuid Connoly may be a scumbag but he played a blinder for St Vincents to help St Vincents win the All Ireland Club championship.

I reckon either Cork or Tyrone will win the league. Us Dubs are taking It easy in the league this year and saving our energies for the All Ireland championship...lol

I still think Kerry have an excellent chance of winning the All Ireland this year even with the loss of Colm Cooper for the entire championship.

Apparently winning the Ulster Schools title for the first time since 1985, and only the second time in our history, is not good enough to progress to the All Ireland Series roll eyes

We now have to play a quarter final tomorrow to finally be allowed out into the big bad world!!! Bring it on dancing

Back in the game, the GAA player left 97.5% dead after horrific assault during US match

Three years after he almost died following an on-field attack a GAA star is set to make a remarkable comeback, the Belfast Telegraph can reveal.

Mark McGovern was left in a coma after the incident, but at the weekend he was back in a Belcoo O'Rahilly's kit for the first time since suffering horrific head injuries.

In June 2011 McGovern, who had played Gaelic football for Fermanagh, was spending the summer in San Francisco, lining out for the city's Ulster club, when he sustained the injury from a blow to the head.

He spent five weeks in the coma, with one of his doctors later informing him he was "97.5% dead".

In response to: Well lads (and lassies, hopefully), it's that time of year again

I'm not sure how this will progress as all my old compatriots seem to have jumped ship, but we'll give it a go.....

First question of the year:
What are your thoughts on the "black card"?

I haven't liked the concept of it from the outset and I didn't see anything this weekend to change my mind. Once again, in my mind, it's all coming down to the refs interpretation of it. I just can't understand why the GAA continually insist on complicating things. A foul is a foul is a foul....get your refs all singing from the same hymn sheet and it's pretty easy.

Big weekend in both the hurling & football leagues, a lot of teams fighting 4 survival & others hopin to make knockout stages, to keep them sharp 4 th championship

Well folks, what have ye made of the league so far?

Cork and Mayo are definitely the form teams and seem to be quite settled. Dublin will be there or thereabouts come August and September but still haven't put out a settled team. Ulster looks like it'll be as competitive as ever if not more so with Donegal, Monaghan, Derry and Tyrone all having shown good form. Cork seem to have the measure of Kerry but the provincial system means Kerry will still be there at the business end of the season....

I wouldn't write off Kerry in the Munster Championship, they normally up their performance in the Championship when compared to the League, they did enough to stay up in Division 1 this year but playing beneath themselves.

Even without Colm Cooper they are still a force to be reckoned with.

Thanks Sky, Johnny gave his all for Kildare, played over fifty consecutive games, managed to finish top scorer in the championship for a team that never reached an All Ireland during his career, and was always willing to put in that extra bit of effort.

He is an absolute gentleman, always stays behind after games to sign autographs and encourage the kids and is truly loved by all GAA folk here in the county.

If you visit his club Allenwood any evening, chances are you will see Johnny out kicking ball and helping the young kids get involved.

A great Gael and a fine example of what our association is built on, decent men and women doing their best for their club, community and county. You see the same kind of characters all over Ireland, in Dublin, Cork and Donegal. People giving up their free time to help others, and that is what makes the GAA unique and truly great.

Thanks for everything JD.thumbs up
