My toes are too far away. I'm 6' 1". You are at best 5' 8" in heels. You have an unfair advantage.

I think it's very important that people make changes in their lives, like looking at underlying problems, maybe changing jobs/study options, if they are lucky enough to have them. But some people are so ill with Depression and mental health issues, they cannot even leave the house and their thinking is distorted. They suffere delusions and can be suicidal.
Healthy eating and exercise willnot help people like this and to suggest a healthy lifestyle will is dangerous in the extreme.
Scans have shown many scientific changes [to long for here] that take place or are prevalent in people who suffer badly with Depression and mental disorders. When Anxiety and Depression are debilitating and the person cannot work/functin they need Pharmacueticals to make their lives more bearable, of course pharmaceutical companies stand to make big bucks but they do so for Cancer, Diabetes etc., its not helping anyone by trying the 'Drug Free' option and alot of these people end up homeless on the streets abusing alcohol or Drugs.

In response to: what's your view on psychiatry? FROM the begining....
ipeople with major mental health problems and may have no insight or accept they have a severe condition will end up in and out of hospital without the right medication for them, once a person is taking meds then a programme of recovery can beguin with the right support systems to help the person help them self.its a huge challenge just like anyone recovering from physical problems,...mental dysfunction can lead to physical problems and visa versa it really is a case of looking after the mind. Body. Soul........ That includes everyone they say prevention is better than cure. To end this on a light note ill say what my nanna my gran used to say,"a little bit of what you facy does you no harm.wink

just to say some mental Heath problems cannot be avoided and is preconditioned but many many people are suffers of a mental heaith issues and that includes people in professions and are leading happy fulfilling lives they seem fit.....better education and people becoming more aware will end the stigma and labelling...like one of my ol folks used to say to me "I am not a wheelchair,I am a mother, friend, sister, I am a creative woman and I ant doing to bad for a woman of 86,minding these ol ones down here...and I still have billy over there giving me the eye.....lol...dancing

I agree. The stigma associated with mental illness is formed from a lack of understanding and we, as a society need to be educated on the symptoms and causes of these conditions. If someone has a broken leg, we can understand how it happened and we make allowances for that person as the break heals. If people were more tolerant and understanding of people with psychiatric problems, it would aid their healing process. thumbs up
