JeanKimberley: smart creatures aren't they..... or are they?!

What I gathered from the video, was that squirrel are "creatures of habit"...

so they are heading back to that tomato plant - unless you get them into the habit of going to say a cup of nuts, and leaving your plant alone.

Well, I was hoping the "pepper" all over the plant (as a non tasty shield), would activate their memory of such taste/burning... and look elsewhere....

I don't care for the gun either.... that is why I'm electing to try a more humane attempt (give them one more chance) to "dislike John's tomatoes).. ahahaha

But you stay safe down there (Fla)... and don't be a stranger... holler anytime.

2intrigued: Perhaps chicken wire installed around the tomatoes will do the trick.

I thought about the squirrel cage too, but there are too many squirrels around this area. I would be catching one, taking it for a 2-3 mile ride, (if that would even be far enough away) to turn loose....all day long....

All I'd be doing is shuffling squirrels... remove one, and another moves in.
But, thanks for the suggestion....

hi john wave

i have never fighted any squirrel....uh oh

actually i have seen them only in some parks...

but what about inverting your strategy and offering them an easy food right in front of the tomatoes plants (like some seeds, hazelnuts, fruits offered on the plate grin ) to make them feel sate so they would not bother/care anymore for the tomatoes?

moping laugh

I have other suggestions, but I better keep them to myself. They would probably only work temporarily. There are a lot of squirrels in this world. Everything is here for a reason as well. Squirrels likely help to counter balance other things in nature. Sorry I commented about the squirrel gnawing your brain on the other post. I don' t think that, the squirrel thing just reminded me of George Costanza when he was having a squirrel problem.laugh

I'm just guessing, but if I did that... what would keep them from inviting all the other squirrels to an "all you can eat, banquet"? And besides, in a group gathering like that... you're going to have at least one in the bunch, that still wants a tomato.... Just saying...

But, thanks for the idea.... Have a good evening...

Negotiating with a squirrel may be difficult. They tend to be unpredictable and do what the want. I suppose the same could be said about some humans.laugh

No problem Joey.... I like to joke/kid around myself. I thought nothing of it.

Put some corn in spots on your backyard if you have crows, the crows will drive thw squirrels nuts. The squirrels will leave.

The right dog or cat will put an end to it too, maybe a fake owl near tomato.

I have a dog, but the squirrels are too fast... she will run them up the tree... but, that's as far as it goes....

at least about our dutchhound Clementine (R.I.P.)...

she was exactly that..unpredictable and doing what she wanted...somehow, it made her more adorable in my eyes...a free spirit in dog's body laugh
