the_whistler: After being 107 KG 6 YRS ago I'm now a healthy 83kg ..how did I do it , will power and fittness routine. I've lost all the excess weight a good few yrs now and am keeping it off ..there was a time when I'd drive the car to the school to drop my young fella basically 6 minute walk away. Now I can run a 10 k in 47 minutes, I've surprised myself . If I can so can anyone ..So what do you do for fittness

fair play to you, if you have will power you can do anything, i have a friend, he about 177 kg and rising he is the nicest guy you could every meet, he doesn't like talking about it, he is out of breath walking short distances. Its hard to see him doing this to himself
i had a cousin died at 45, he was about 30 stone and smoked.
I know like smoking its a addiction, we tried a few years ago , to join a gym together he only went once, if only he had will power moping

Yes it is true to a pint, but if you have put up weight it wont just come down my changing you diet, you have to burn it off, its easy to put it on but taking it off its not as easy.

It actually will if you change to the right diet. Excercise will speed up the process and help tone up so yes best to do both but you will lose weight by simply changing your diet.

Gym is putting him under pressure, I think it is best to do it in small stages. Like, encourage him to take up walking, even to the shop and back or a stroll down the Barrow or Slaney banks. every little bit of exercise will make him feel better about himself and try to praise him, telling him he is looking good when you see the slightest difference.thumbs up

He needs a lifestyle overhaul and someone to sit him down and have a good chat with him. The problem is that in certain sections of Irish society obesity is not only acceptable but seen as a good thing, we have all heard, fine lump of a man, well in it, to describe someone who is clearly obese.

he may need medical intervention at this stage as obviously motivation is an issue..gastric band ? I'm not an adversary if it but I've seen unbelievable effects from it . I know if two people who have lost well over 12 stone in a short time , May be an option so maybe should discuss with his doctor

You are probably right there. thumbs up

Isn't it amazing to see the number of obese kids going around these days, we only had one in our class in school, he was a mighty young fellah to anchor the tug o war team, we won every year. laugh

Is a great feeling isnt it.

After being ill and having treatment for over a year (if I wasnt sitting down I was lying down)I had gone up to a size 16 then last October the doc told me to lose weight. In came healthier eating, walking and Zhumba, I am now back to a size 12 and feel great.
