I ran every day [few miles] for years, cycled to work and back for years.. then the dreaded Arthritis kicked in [Don't laugh it's coming to a knee near you !! and I had to cut back. Now I walk, I miss the running alot but I think it has to be something you enjoy. I love walking fast. Taking in the Trees, All weathers. I love dancing to music at home, I am abit overweight but thats because of an underactive Thyroid which Im taking meds for . The medication ironically makes you curvy.
I love gardening and can manage that... Digging, planting, cutting, its good sweat inducing work and I love the feeling of total tiredness and relaxation after.

RoseaBelleBlues Have you thought of having your Thyroid checked ? if you are at Slimming World and not losing as much as you'd like and as active as you are, you should be losing more. You arent big boned . Alot of women have underactive Thyroids so have the blood test. Best of luck with the weight anyway !

I was nearly 15 stone about 4 years ago. I am 5'7 tall. Was told if I didn't lose the flab type 2 diabetes was next. Took up walking and cut the crap out. I am now 12st 4lbs down to 34 in waist never felt fitter and healthier. I have managed to keep the weight off and I have rejoined the gym as well. Just have to be careful as my left knee is dodgy with wear and tear.

Whistler The shoes now are much better with shock absorbers and the lot, much better than over 20years ago when I was running after work in the Pheonix park for an hour and a half... just don't overdo it and remember to massage the knees with oil and take Fish oil. Keep it up. Mayo is rainy and damp so stay well covered.... happy to hear you are so fit and well.ireland

Jim I am amazed at that... its not easy with Diabetes either as you get so tired. you must blog how you managed to do it.. food wise I would love to know what changes you made. They say its 80per cent what you eat and only 20per cent exercise. I dont do Gym. Wont do Gym.

That is excellent advice. I have a underactive thyroid too. I think it can be missed by doctors too. Well worth getting checked out to be on the safe side.

For me I already had a underactive thyroid. So I didn't want to have diabetes as well. What I did was life style changes. Cut out as much sugary snacks and drinks out as possible. I now look at the sugar and fat contents in foods and try to make informed choices that way.

I also did walking as well and lost a lot of weight that way and ate sensibly. The real motivation was seeing my old clothes going out and being replaced by new ones that fit me a lot better as well. You just need to be extremely determined and committed. Swimming is great too.

How do you think the football will go, it is hard to see beyond the dubs, will Donegal offer a challenge?

Dubs should win the All Ireland. Donegal are not the same team as before. Cork vs Mayo should be interesting.

Hard to see past the dubs alright. Amazing to see them 1/10 favourites against Donegal. The winners of Mayo and Kerry will give them a challenge in the final.thumbs up
