Savages.. 5 pampered rich women , wives of powerful mining executives, travel with their husbands on business to Australia, while they are visiting a tropical Island their husbands are murdered in cold blood by terrorists...this forces the women to escape into the jungle, and survive... On their own, in fear for their lives.. A MUST read :)
The Grapes of Wrath is probably my all time favorite book. I also like anything by Robert Heinlein. Another book I found facinating was Cities in Flight by James Blish. It's a Si Fi book which looks back at the past (actually our future) from the perspective of an even more distant future when the earth had nothing left to sustain life and what humanity had to do to survive.

Without doubt it's got to be 'Error Of Judgement' by Chris Mullen about the Birmingham Six Pub Bombing of 1974 and the six innocent men who were robbed of 16 yrs of their lives by HM Prison .
