If this is a friend's situation; my suggestion is to stay out of it.
If he gets involved with the daughter, he might end up with the older woman as a mother-in-law. When the daughter finds out about the fling - well nothing says deceit and betrayal louder than keeping secrets like this.

I know you have some crazy threads.... but that does actually happen a lot. And sometimes an older woman would say as an opener to a guy in a bar 'God, my daughter would like a man like you.... but she's in Australia/Canada/emigrate now' An that would be her opener of a conversation.
I don't know if men do the same thing... I guess they might on occasion.
