celticbreeze70: On a first date, would you expect the gal to pay for her dinner,go dutch or for the guy pay for the meal? Just asking.... :)
I have rarely gone out for dinner on a first date, I generally choose daytime coffee, so payment is never an issue.
For dinner, I never 'expect' a man to pay. I am always willing to pay at least half. I don't play the feminist card if they insist on paying though. If they really want to, I allow them to, then I buy the drinks afterwards.

I insist on at least having my own straw for our one milkshake.

I meet up with primary school buddies, all male, on an annual basis and it's gas every year, if one person goes for the steak supplement, everyone adopts a competitive mentality and ratchets up the bill, ordering the priciest stuff. Same with the wine, guzzling as much as possible so not to be out done, the last straw is substituting coffee for an Irish coffee or double brandy. We are such pathetic creatures., total bottom feeders! The best one though, is one chap who gets a call every year that one of the sprogs has some fever and he makes his excuses to leave early, throws twenty five euro with a flourish onto table, always leaves us short. Still i wouldn't miss it, it's never really discussed how Neanderthal the behaviour is. So to answer, the girl should offer to foot the bill, but not really push it, and the fella should pay. She could leave a fiver tip though and get the first round in!
