rohaan: For the last six years or so I've been putting small amounts of money (5-25 dollars) in several places around the house, and purposefully not touching it unless absolutely necessary in the month. That way, between pay dates, I always have enough for the little things that come along--sundries, milk, fresh veggies and fruit, a cab ride, an unforeseen lunch out, etc...Additionally, I have, for the past 5 years or so, ALWAYS deducted a given amount (between 40-60) from my check ledger, as if a bill were paid. That way, no matter how low the money goes, I know that before the end of the month I have at least that amount MORE than what the ledger shows. I know it's creative math, but it works, and I very, very seldom am without some viable cash, from one source or another. Ironically, when I was working and making great money, I didn't take this good of care--my home economics has improved like there's no tomorrow!
